3 Methods to Overcoming Obstacles

I was recently a panelist for National Association of  Professional  Women and the topic was Overcoming Obstacles, Even During the Most Challenging Times.  It was such an amazing group of panelist and we all had a way to overcoming obstacles that I felt was so incredibly clear and concise that I must share with you.   Let’s face it, no matter where you are in your life you have obstacles.  Everyday, we face obstacles, we have to make discussions that will effect not just today but our tomorrows.  Let me start by giving you  the definition of Obstacle:  It is a thing that blocks one’s way or prevents or hinders progress.  No matter how small or big.   I’’ll share with you 3 simple tools you can add to your toolbox and tackle any obstacle.

1.  Face fear – Look, we all have that fight or flight gut reaction and unfortunately many women have that flight reaction stronger than men.  We generally don’t want conflict.  Listen, when we have a plan set in our mind, we move toward that goal but  if someone else (may it be your boss, co-worker, or even your spouse) have a different plan we tend to agree and shy away from our plan even if it isn’t in our best interest.   No more, let’s face our fears. Speak up, show up and be prepared to stand for what you want.    You have a voice use it, no more sticking our head into the sand.  You will be surprised at how great you feel from standing up for something you believe in rather than just going with the flow  and your plan has been sidetracked.

2.  Hold yourself accountable –  We can come up with tons of excuse (obstacles) that can prevent us from doing the things we set out to do. Did you plan out your week? Did you make all the calls you were suppose to make?  Did you workout like you said you were? I could go on and on.  However, we all have 24 hours in a day it’s what we do in those 24 hours that count.  Plan out your week.  Set appointments for the things you have to complete and keep your appointment!  Look at yourself in the mirror and get real with yourself,  you can hide from other but not the person staring back at you.

2.  Get a team –  Look, we all have our strengths and weakness the key is to address them.  Sit down and make a list.  Once you have found your strengths, great focus on those and move forward.  However,  we have to acknowledge our weaknesses.  We all have weaknesses and that is not an obstacle we can’t overcome.   There are people who are strong where we are weak.   Seek out those people and form your dream team.

Meryl’s Personal Tricks and Tips for…Pampering Beauty during Treatment

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Meryl shares with us how cancer has prompted her to give her beauty routine a green makeover, a challenge that would later inspire and motivate her to create Hynt Beauty, and the tricks she learned to pamper herself so she could look and, in turn feel, her best while fighting cancer.

1. Switch to organic and fragrance-free moisturizers
Treatment often slows down the skin’s ability to renew itself and reduces the production of sebum, the skin’s own natural moisturizer. As a result, your skin becomes dry and parched and, in the worst cases, can flake and itch.Keeping your skin as hydrated as possible during this time is essential. Unfortunately, too many moisturizers on the market contain undesirable ingredients that can at worst, interfere with your treatments and worsen your skin’s condition.

Meryl opted for organic formulas that nourish and pamper the skin and made sure they are fragrance-free, too. Your sense of smell becomes very acute during treatment and even the subtlest scent can make you feel nauseous. Meryl’s go-to brand that fits all these requirements is Acure, especially their Ultra Hydrating Body Lotion, Bare Baby Lotion, Moroccan Argan Oil and Sensitive Facial Cream!

2. Deep condition your hands and feet
Your face isn’t the only part of your body that needs an extra dose of tender loving care during this difficult time. Up your moisturizing game by giving your hands and feet a pampering deep conditioning treatment before you go to sleep. Slather on rich and moisturizing oil-based natural balms and then put on a pair of cotton gloves or socks. In the morning, your extremities will be much softer and smoother.
3. Wear physical sunscreen every day
Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is always a good idea, but it becomes of paramount importance during cancer treatment when your skin is extremely vulnerable and sensitive. Ideally, you should avoid the sun as much as possible but that’s not always feasible. To give your skin the extra protection it needs, use a physical sunscreen with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. Unlike their chemical counterparts that are easily absorbed by the skin, these natural minerals remain safely on its surface where they create a protective shield that reflects UV rays away from it.

4. Neutralize facial redness
Steroids are often prescribed as part of treatments to help reduce inflammation. Unfortunately, they have several side effects, including flushing, redness and rashes. If your skin is affected by steroid redness, the best course of action is to mask it with makeup.
A yellow-toned powder, such as our FINALE Finished Powder in Neutral Yellow can neutralize the redness, rendering it near invisible to the naked eye. It is also formulated with organic arrowroot, which serves as a natural remedy to deeply hydrate and soothe irritated, tired skin. For best results, apply it with a brush with synthetic bristles. Animal hair brushes tend to be coarse and, therefore, more irritating.

5. Smell good with natural deodorants

Some cancer treatments can force a woman into early menopause, which can result in frequent perspiration during hot flushes. If this is happening to you, it may be very tempting to use heavy-duty antiperspirants containing aluminium.

What you may not be aware of is that antiperspirants cause more problems than they solve. To start with, they act like a plug, sealing shut the entrance to your sweat ducts, thereby stopping the flow of sweat. As desirable as this may appear during a hot flush, this is far from healthy.

In addition, aluminum can easily be absorbed by the skin and has been linked to breast cancer. A safer alternative is a natural deodorant that contains baking soda and/or kaolin clay. However, due to the skin’s heightened sensitivity at this time, some patients report a mild irritation even to these gentler ingredients. A better option that Meryl used and wholeheartedly recommends is natural corn starch powder like Honest Company’s Organic Baby Powder.

6. A polished manicure

Many cancer patients experience nail deterioration and even loss, so traditional manicures and nail polishes are strictly forbidden at this time. To help your nails stay in the best possible condition, keep your nail care routine simple and basic. Keep your hands clean, trim your nails and make them shine with a soft nail buffer. Finally, work in a bit of olive or jojoba oil to stave off brittle nails.

7. Go green with your lipstick

A creamy lipstick or shiny gloss is always a great mood-lifter. But, once again, it is important to pay careful attention to the labels and what they contain. Opt for unscented and organic formulas that are free of harsh and potentially toxic chemicals. Lip products can be easily ingested so why risk even the slightest chance of causing more havoc on your health now or in the future, when there are purer, equally beautiful colors and great natural brands to choose from!

Meryl and the rest of the Hynt Beauty team sincerely hope that these little bits of advice will somehow give you or your loved one, some relief from the side effects but moreover, give the confidence boost to fight against cancer – in style! If you have any additional tips, please do send us an email, comment on our social platforms or comment on this blog post! We are sure others will find it helpful as well.

Achieve Salon Smooth results with Baby Foot

bf_usa_pink_1-500
I was really interested to try this product out since I always feel like my feet are a mess unless they’ve just had a fresh pedi. I can never seem to get the salon smooth results when I buff and scrub my heels and feet at home myself. Baby Foot was pretty easy to use and had a great herbal scent when I opened up the booties. The package suggests putting on a pair of socks over the booties and I would highly recommend doing this too. These things are seriously slippery to walk on and while the package suggests you stay seated for the hour long application, if you’re like me, sitting totally still for over an hour is near impossible and putting a pair of socks on will help with traction (bonus points for socks with grippy things on the bottom). Also, the socks help secure the booties and lotion for a closer, more glove like fit to the skin, so every part of the foot and toes were covered. After I washed my feet off, my skin didn’t look or feel any different for about four days, but on day 4, my skin began to majorly peel. The peeling can take a few days and isn’t the prettiest look, but I found sloughing off the dead/peeled skin in the shower at the end of the day helps.
This October, 20% of proceeds from their limited edition pink box will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Everyone’s Hair should have a little Ovation

ovation_cell-therapy_sm

Do you want thicker, stronger or longer hair? Maybe you have dry damaged hair from blow dryers and flat irons.  Ovation Cell Therapy Hair and Scalp Treatment is just what you need to start solving some of these dreaded hair issues.

What makes Ovation Cell Therapy a “must-try”?  According to Ovation,  “Ovation Cell Therapy is specially  formulated with “exclusive ingredients at high levels unmatched in the industry incorporating vital proteins, key vitamins, botanical extracts and amino acids which penetrate and bind into the hair shaft resulting in thicker, stronger, longer hair.”

Other unique features of Ovation Cell Therapy include:

Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein A which closely mimics our own hair’s keratin and is the best protein known to help repair damaged hair.

Ovation Cell Therapy is  formulated  with blends of ingredients designed to improve scalp circulation, encourage healthy hair and soothe the scalp, therefore, reducing irritation. Also incorporated in Ovation is Serenoa Serrulata Extract, known to help block the production of DHT which can contribute to hair loss.

These features definitely piqued  my interest and  I decided to try it. Use  Ovation Volume Therapy Shampoo to wet hair or use your own favorite shampoo. After shampooing, Lightly massage  Ovation Cell Therapy Hair Treatment into your scalp and leave in for 3 to 5 minutes, rinse and then follow with a conditioner. Ovation Cell Therapy should be used 2-3 times per week.

Don’t take my word for it, here are the real results:

BASED ON A CONSUMER PERCEPTION TEST AFTER 4 WEEKS OF USE:
100% of participants reported HEALTHIER HAIR
97% of participants reported MORE BOUNCE & VOLUME
97% of participants reported MORE LUSTER & SHINE
93% of participants reported MORE MANAGEABLE HAIR
