Theraflu™Express Max™Formulas for Daytime and Nighttime are available now at major retailers across the country.
I wanted to find out more about these new products to share with you, and was truly delighted to have an opportunity to ask Peter Van Zile, the Pharm.D., Country Medical Affairs Principal Scientist, Respiratory for GSK Consumer Healthcare the following questions:
#1. Vicki: Colds and flu may occur at any time, but is there a particular season when colds and flu seem to be more prevalent?
Mr.Van Zile: We’re constantly coming into contact with viruses and bacteria, so you’re right – it’s possible to catch a cold or get the flu year-round. Cold and flu season typically coincides with the fall and winter. The incidence of flu usually peaks in January – February and may last as late as May. Remember to wash your hands often during this time!
#2. Vicki: What differentiates a cold from the flu, and what symptoms might a person typically experience from each?
Mr. Van Zile: The influenza virus, commonly called the flu, is a contagious respiratory infection. Unlike the common cold, the flu may cause severe illness and life-threatening complications in some people. Flu symptoms include nasal congestion, sore throat, headache, body ache, cough, and fever. If you suspect your symptoms are the result of the flu, you should consult your healthcare provider. Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets come in both Daytime and Nighttime options for severe cold and cough.
#3. Vicki: What are the benefits for the consumer?
Mr.Van Zile: With new Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets, consumers can feel confident that symptom relief is on the way, no matter the time of day. In addition to the symptoms temporarily relieved by the Daytime, the Night Time also relieves a runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose or throat, and itchy, watery eyes. They can also expect the same powerful over-the-counter symptom relief they get from the Theraflu™ family of products, but now with a unique warming sensation they can instantly feel.
#4. Vicki: Are you able to take Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Severe Cold & Cough Caplets if you develop a cold and are taking prescribed medications?
Mr. Van Zile: You shouldn’t use Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets with any other drug containing acetaminophen (prescription or nonprescription) or if you’re allergic to acetaminophen. If you aren’t sure whether a drug contains acetaminophen, ask your doctor or pharmacist. You also shouldn’t use Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets if you’re taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson’s disease), or for two weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you don’t know if your prescription drug contains a MAOI, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are taking the blood thinning drug warfarin.
#5. Vicki: Please tell us more about the warming relief formula in the Theraflu™ Caplets.
Mr. Van Zile: Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets are the one and only cold and flu caplet that provides a unique warming sensation you can instantly feel. The formulation has been designed to allow the ingredients that cause the warming sensation to dissolve in the mouth when the tablet is consumed. The warming sensation will be felt in the mouth and then in the throat and upper chest when the product is swallowed.
Vicki: Thank you so much Mr. Van Zile for sharing this extremely helpful and valuable information about the new Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets.
I’d also like to thank GSK Consumer Healthcare for sending me a complimentary box of Theraflu™ ExpressMax™ Caplets. It’s reassuring to know that my family and I are now prepared for the cold and flu season as winter is on the way.
