Apothederm Skin Care supports sustainability & animal well-being

Apothederm Donates Tradeshow Furniture to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society

Heaven can wait animal society
Helix BioMedix, Inc. (HXBM.PK), a dermatology biotech focusing on peptide research and dedicated to bringing to consumers the latest in skin care science with their Apothederm® line of products, is proud to announce their donation to Heaven Can Wait Animal Society (https://www.hcws.org/).

In a new program emphasizing lowering the company’s carbon foot print and promoting sustainability by repurposing items, furnishings were purchased locally for the Apothederm exhibit at the International Spa Association (ISPA), held October 19th -21st in Las Vegas, NV. The company also sought out a local non-profit for donation of the gently used furniture and decor after the tradeshow to help reduce shipping fuel consumption. In supporting Apothederm’s commitment to animal health and well-being, Heaven Can Wait Animal Society was selected based on their philosophy of caring for unwanted dogs and cats until they can find new homes for them and for promoting spaying and neutering to help with animal overpopulation.

Heaven Can Wait regularly holds garage sales to sell donated books, furniture, electronics, jewelry and home decor in an effort to help provide funding for their organization’s needs. Following the
tradeshow the company delivered the furniture to Heaven Can Wait for them to use on site and in their yard sales fundraising efforts.

“We are committed to finding creative ways of reducing our impact on the environment. This really was a very positive experience for us – we made a high impact impression at ISPA and our donation helps the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society with the amazing work they are doing for the animal community in Las Vegas,” said Robin Carmichael, President & COO of Helix BioMedix, Inc.

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society yard sales take place at 6360 Annie Oakley Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89120  every Friday and Saturday from 9am to 2pm. For more information, please email garagesales@hcws.org.

About Heaven Can Wait Animal Society

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) animal humane organization, was formed in 2000 by a group of 5 concerned citizens with the idea of building a beautiful 20 acre sanctuary to house all of the unwanted animals in our community. In the meantime, though, animals were and still are dying at rate of around 30,000 per year in our local shelters with even more just dying in the streets. Therefore, we decided to refocus our efforts slightly away from rescue and more toward promoting spay/neuter as the solution to the tragic pet overpopulation problem here in Las Vegas. www.hcws.org

Can a “Strawberry” melt fat away?

http://www.strawberry-laser.us

The Doctors Strawberry Laser

First introduced in London, the Strawberry Laser’s cold laser technology is now available in the United States. Already, over 5 million people worldwide have lost instant inches with Strawberry.  There are now Strawberry systems installed in over 30 countries.

The Strawberry Laser is an FDA cleared, painless alternative to liposuction that achieves non-invasive inch-loss and body contouring by shrinking fat cells. With each 10-20 minute treatment, unwanted fat is naturally released from the body via the lymphatic system.  The results are instant. All you have to lose are inches!  To see Strawberry “in action” visit this link from “The Doctors.”  http://www.thedoctorstv.com/videos/strawberry-laser-for-slimmer-thighs

Dr. Lyle Back is a board certified Philadelphia plastic surgeon who uses the device in his practice. He states that, “Strawberry’s results are 2.5 times better than any other device in the industry.  An FDA approved double-blind clinical study with placebos compared those treated vs. the placebo subjects over a course of 8 treatments. The average loss of treated subjects recorded was 3.7 inches. This reduction was from one measurement location and not a combination of two or three, as if often quoted. What’s more, 2 areas of the body can be treated simultaneously.”

Strawberry Laser body contouring treatments are ideal for two types of people: Those that are already following a healthy diet and lifestyle and want to remove localized pockets of fat from their abdomen, back, legs, or arms, or those who want to use the Strawberry recommended lifestyle protocol, to “jump start” their slimming efforts as motivation for maintaining a healthier and slimmer lifestyle. A course of eight Strawberry treatments are recommended, typically two treatments each week for 4 weeks.

 So how does it work?

Prior to each treatment, precise measurements are taken at multiple levels around a patient’s specific target area(s). During the treatment, low-level (cold) laser technology is used to painlessly melt fat within the fat cells. The process is similar to exercise. When a person exercises, triglycerides are released from the fat cells. With these being released, the fat cells reduce in size (adipocytes). The Strawberry Laser works in a similar way, pulling the triglycerides from the fat cells. This results in millions of fat cells becoming smaller, so inches are reduced off the waist, hips, thighs, arms, buttocks and male breasts. Exercising in conjunction with Strawberry Laser treatments further stimulates the fat reduction process. Surrounding tissues, such as blood vessels, nerves and skin cells are unaffected by the procedure.

WHY IS STRAWBERRY SUPERIOR TO OTHER FAT MELTING METHODS ON THE MARKET?

Zerona:
The Zerona is a US made machine, which uses 6 spiders like arms all with a laser diode in each.
The ‘arms’ are not placed on the skin and are roughly 3-4 inches away from the area being treated. Treatment times are 40 minutes, which  generally combines  the waist, hips and thighs for 20 minutes, then the patient turns over and the same treatment is repeated on the opposite side of the patient’s body.Treatments are carried out 3 times a week for a minimum period of 2 weeks. The FDA clinical trials showed an average loss of 3.52 inches from the waist, hips and thighs. It does not state how many sessions were required.
I-Lipo:
I-lipo is a machine manufactured by a company called Chromogenex.
The treatments are 2 treatments a week for 4 weeks, 8 in total.
A healthy diet and regular exercise is recommended to maintain the inch loss.
The machine was FDA cleared on April 13th 2012for Circumference Reduction.
The FDA clinical trials showed an average loss of 1.75 inches from the waist following a course of 8 treatments.

Coolsculpting:
I-lipo is a machine manufactured in the US by a company called Zeltiq.
Is a machine which combines vacuum and freezing in order to permanently destroy fat calls in a patient’s problem areas. The fat cells become crystallized, meaning they die.
The treatment is painful as the cooling begins during the first few minutes; patients’ will feel pressure and intense cold.
During the procedure patients’ tend to feel, deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness and discomfort.
Following the procedure, typical side effects include numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging and pain. The results are minimal as the treatment is localised.
Different areas can be treated in one visit so treatment times vary depending on each patient’s requirements. The results tend to be seen 3 weeks – 2 months after the treatment.
The treatment was FDA cleared on May 2nd 2012 for the subsequent removal of fat on the Flank (love handles) and abdomen in individuals with a body mass index of 30 or less.
Following a laser treatment, Strawberry’s protocol recommends a minimum of 20 minutes cardiovascular exercise. This is essential to maintain the results.

 What results can I expect?

A course of 8 Strawberry treatments results in noticeable body contouring results and targeted fat loss, depending on a patient’s metabolic rate and build.  Inches will stay off after treatment provided that a patient follows a healthy diet and exercises.

What actually happens to the fat?

The fat cells are undamaged; but due to the reaction of the laser light on the cell it will empty the contents. The contents consist of water, glycerol and free fatty acids. Following a treatment, the glycerol is rapidly absorbed by the body. The water carries the free fatty acids, through the lymphatic system, through the liver and kidneys and are passed out of the body in your urine.

Who is not a candidate for the treatment?

Pregnant women and people who have medical problems including epilepsy, heart diseases, hypertension, liver or kidney disease are advised not to undergo a Strawberry Laser Lipo treatment.

 The Cost

Treatments can vary between $200 – $300 per session and this can include up to two areas of the body.

For the full eight sessions, the expense is thousands of dollars less than liposuction.

Fight Like a Girl!

breast-cancer-ribbon-cover-photo

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I chose to write this blog at the end of the month so that I can not only tell you how important breast cancer awareness is this month but every month. My mother, Sarah Lee died of breast cancer when I was 11 years old. I have had to have a mammogram every year since I was the age of 16. Breast cancer runs in my family so I am diligent, but even if it doesn’t run in your family does not mean you are safe. Studies now say you don’t need your first mammogram until the age of 40 and you don’t have to do it every year but every other year. I like to be on the safe side, I do monthly self-breast exams while in the shower. It is really simple and does not take a lot of time. Start by putting your arm over your head and use the pads of your fingers, move around your entire breast in a circular pattern working from the outside to the center, checking the entire breast and armpit area. Check both breasts feeling for any lumps thickening, or hardened knots (usually feels like a marble). Strangely enough, it is usually the husbands or partners who find the lump for you. To get more ways to do a self breast exam you can get more information at http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-self-exam If you or him find something unusual go get checked by your doctor. Again, better safe than sorry, early detection is key.

Another thing you can do to fight breast cancer today is start eating healthy. I eat healthy because research has shown that healthy eating can significantly decrease your chances of getting breast cancer. There are several types of food that fight breast cancer but my top 5 are:

1. Salmon, I love it grilled over Spinach, Kale or even brown rice.
2. Spinach is delicious cooked or raw, it is even great in smoothies.
3. Walnuts are wonderful for snacks, you can grind them into
smoothies or put on top of your salad.
4. Blueberries are great to add in smoothies, oatmeal and even yogurt.
5. Eggs make yummy omelets, and boiled are perfect for a snack or sliced in salads.

I eat all of the above on a regular basis; they all are easy to add to your daily eating regimen. For the top 10 foods that fight breast cancer http://www.besthealthmag.ca/best-you/girlfriends-guide/10-foods-that-fight-breast-cancer?slide=10 I generally start my day fighting breast cancer with my smoothie, easy, quick and I can take it on the go.

I have always been a fighter and when it comes to my health there is no difference. I am not saying that, just because I work out and eat right that I will never get breast cancer. What I am saying is, for breast cancer to catch me it will have to chase me down! I am not going down without a fight. I fight for my health each and every day and so should you. Genetics plays a big part in our health but it doesn’t mean we have to take it lying down.

bc fight like a girl

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month but please be aware every day. Eat right, do your self-breast exams monthly and fight, fight fight! You only have one life to live.

The New American Plate

unnamed-10

When you hear the phrases “eating nutritious foods,” “juicing,” or “drinking green smoothies,” the first thought that comes to mind is probably one related to weight loss. And truthfully, that is probably the primary reason that most women watch what they consume on a daily basis. However, there are many other health and beauty benefits to consuming foods high in nutritional content, and here are just a few to consider:

Reduced Disease Risk

Many health researchers indicate that eating a nutritious diet can help reduce your risk of various types of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and more. This means that focusing on dietary nutrition can help you live a longer life that’s also higher in quality as you’re less likely to be bedridden with some life-threatening disease in your later years.

To decrease your risk, the American Institute for Cancer Research recommends that you simply follow a concept they call The New American Plate. Essentially this means filling your plate two-thirds with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans while the remaining one-third should contain some type of animal protein such as chicken or fish.

Clearer Skin

Many studies have found a connection between diet and skin issues, such as one published in Dermato Endocrinology that discusses how people who eat high glycemic foods (foods higher in sugar) tend to have more acne-related issues. Therefore, limiting these types of foods in your own diet can ultimately result in a clearer complexion.

Additionally, some women have found that eating nutritious foods and drinking vitamin-rich juices helps clear their skin in other ways. For instance, healthy-business owner Jil Larsen was diagnosed with a skin disorder that caused dark spots to appear, and it was all because of what she was eating. However, she was able to reverse it within a few months of changing her diet to one that involved eating more nutrients and juicing.

Fuller, Healthier Hair

Hair loss is a huge concern for a lot of women and rightfully so. Harvard Medical School has discovered that almost one in three women experience this unpleasant issue, typically referred to in the medical field as alopecia. This type of hair loss generally starts wherever you part your hair, with the top of the head showing the greatest effects.

Fortunately, diet can often help, especially if your hair loss is due to a lack of iron. This means that you can have fuller, healthier hair simply by eating more iron-rich foods like red meat, poultry, beans, dark leafy greens, and iron-fortified cereals.

Greater Mental Clarity

Did you know that the foods you eat on a regular basis can impact you mentally? Specifically, they can affect your moods and mood patterns, impact your ability to fight off depression and anxiety, and can even potentially help prevent mind-related disorders such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s.

That’s why the Mental Health Foundation suggests eating fewer processed foods or foods high in sugar. Instead, they recommend that you focus primarily on consuming wholegrain foods (think cereal, rice, pasta, and potatoes), fruit, and vegetables. Furthermore, eating some type of protein at every meal helps regulate your hormones so your brain function stays steady all day long. Fish is always a great option as it contains many good-for-you nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial to your heart.

Improving your diet certainly offers many different health and beauty benefits, and these are just a few. If you know any more, feel free to share them in the comment section below!
