Tonight, TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist John D. created gorgeous hairstyles for several leading ladies on the red carpet, including Greta Gerwig and Drew Barrymore. Please find his hairstyle how-to’s with images below for reference.
Best actress nominee, Greta Gerwig turned heads in her DKNY Atelier gown and gorgeous, textured up-do.
“Our inspiration for tonight was purely feeling beautiful. We wanted the look to be elegant, classic, and romantic so I opted for a soft, romantic ‘do to complement Greta’s style.”
How-to:
- Use TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse on clean hair and apply throughout, from root to tip, for volume and a great foundation. Blow-dry hair using a medium-sized round brush to add extra bounce and lift at the root
- Once hair is dry, use a 1″ curling iron to create body, which helps add softness to the final look. It also holds hair together, which is necessary when creating an up-do. Once finished, flip head upside-down and spray waves using TRESemmé TRES Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray
- Section off the hair that frames the face (ear to ear) and give the hair a light back comb at the root for added lift. Then, rake fingers through hair to tame down excess lift and pull remaining hair back toward the nape of the neck. Split hair into two sections and proceed to tie hair into knots creating a kind of loose “chain” effect. Bobby pin into place. Pull the remaining hair, that was sectioned out, toward the back of the head and secure using a few hair pins.
- Finish the look by spraying TRESemmé TRES Two Hairspray all over to lock it in place. Try embellishing the style using some sparkly jewelry or an accessory – Greta wore Vintage Fred Leighton pieces.
Drew Barrymore looked radiant in her embellished Monique Lhuillier gown. To complement her fun and feminine style, we opted for a super straight look with a deep side part. “I wanted to balance the exquisite detail on her gown by keeping the hair simple and chic.”
How-to:
- Prep clean, towel-dried hair with a thermal heat protectant spray and spritz throughout. Comb through to ensure hair is coated, and blow dry. To get a super smooth blowout, I like to use a boar bristle paddle brush. This allows you to get a nice hold on each section and create tension to aid in the smoothing process.
- Once hair is dry, use a flat iron on a medium-to-low setting and run the iron through the hair to seal down the cuticle and add great shine.
- Determine parting and tuck behind ears. To ensure a nice smooth part, use just a dab of mousse and spread it out onto fingertips then apply the product to the parting area to create extra shine and added hold. Take a small dab of hair creme, emulsify into palms and run through the mid-lengths and ends to tame fly-aways and add shine.
