Effortless “Flower” hair from Butterfly Studio

The best summer hair accessory? Flowers! Take your hair to the next level by adding beautiful flowers. Try this effortless braided look from the owner of Butterfly Studio Salon, Kattia Solano. This style is ideal for any hair length and perfect for summer outtings. See below for a step-by-step hair tutorial.

Flower Hair

Flower Hair

How To: Flower Hair
1. First step: set the crown area with a small curing iron.
2. For the rest of hair, take random sections and simply wrap the hair vertically around the rod. This will give it a bit of wave and texture.
3. Spray with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray before you brush out for hold, grip, and a better style.
4. Softly brush out to amplify waves and enhance texture. (Don’t worry, we are not looking for perfection – think more along the lines of rolling around the garden instead!)
5. Braid hair over to one side and secure.
6. Open the braid and create a soft frame (wave/swoop) in the front.
7. Take your flowers and cut to desired length, keeping the stems long and choosing wider and fuller flowers.
8. Place the flowers by sticking into the braid and secure with a bobby pin.
9. Design your own way, follow your inspiration, and break the rules. An added idea to create a look with more drama is to apply flowers through the length of the braid.

Half up/down hairstyles are here to stay

Half-up styles are back in a big way, but it’s already time to take this look to the next level. If you’re sick of the tired top knot or just ready to evolve the look, try this new twist on the effortless hairstyle, straight from the experts at Butterfly Studio Salon. Ideal for natural texture or 2nd (even 3rd!) day hair, it works with any length and texture. A lifesaver for frizzy hair days and so simple to create – not even a brush is needed!

hair 1/2 up 1/2 down

hair 1/2 up 1/2 down

How-To: Half-Up Double Knot

1. First step: texturizing product/dry shampoo, which is essential for grip and hold when styling. (Kattia Solano, owner of Butterfly Studio loves Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray on the crown area) Lift hair, taking it by sections, spray at the root as if you were teasing and then massage through with your hands to work the product in.

2. Using your hands, section out a “horse shoe” shape of hair at the crown area. Thicker hair can opt for larger section while thinner hair can work with a smaller amount of hair. Rake through with your hands to brush and pull back hair to create a clean section.

3. With a small hair tie in one hand, take a section of hair and pull halfway through the tie, so that you are left with a little “pom-pom.” Wrap elastic around 2-3 times until secure without pulling all of the hair through. (Use small clear elastics so you won’t see the tie, and in case you don’t wrap any hair around the knot the ties will be discreet.)

4. Open up the pom-pom with your fingertips for fullness to create a textured knot, then wrap the hair ends around your knot once and tuck hair under the elastic band with ends sticking out. Keep the remaining length right under the pom-pom, as you will use the extra hair length to help with fullness and perfectly messy texture for your next knot.

5. Create your next section right below the first by taking 1 1/2 to 2 inches of hair from the sides (horse shoe of “V” part all the way around the head). Use your hands again to gather and comb the hair back, then combine the hair ends from your first knot with your new section and repeat steps 3 and 4 – tying right under the first pom-pom, tucking through and leaving ends free. If your hair is long enough you can even wrap the extra hair around in a “figure eight” motion around both knots for detail.

6. To finish, spritz a little hairspray and then make it your own. Don’t be afraid to muss it up – the more texture the better! To complete the look, Kattia recommends adding some height/volume at the front top of the head by slightly pulling/gently tugging hair up at the root with your fingers.

*With this hairstyle, volume is always at your side to rid limp hair and that unwanted greasy summer look once and for all. Play with positioning and create more knots for a change up or more customization for how you can wear it. You can even use bobby pins to change the knot shapes.

How To Acheive The Perfect Top Knot

The Top Knot is the ideal style for any occasion as it can easily be paired with a dressed up or down ensemble for the perfect look. Jenny Balding, NYC Cutler/Redken Stylist, shares how to achieve this look:

Top Knot

Top Knot

•For best results, start with day two hair onwards as your hair will be easier to manage with an already ‘lived -in’ texture.
•Mist hair with dry shampoo, focusing primarily on the roots mainly – this will give your hair more texture, grip and volume.
•Then mist a light hairspray throughout for some hold and grip.
•Sweep your hair into high ponytail. Keep checking what it looks like from your profile so you position ponytail in the most flattering point of your head for your face shape.
•Take the ponytail and back-brush from the underneath lightly – this creates a slight disheveled texture.
•Sweep around the base of the ponytail and pin using U shaped hairpins. These really anchor the hair best which means you will only need 2 or 3 to secure.
•This creates perfectly disheveled topknot that looks ultra stylish and works for any event.

Experience Arbonne With Me

Non-toxic, Vegan, Gluten Free, Botanical Based Sunscreen for all your family this summer!

Arbonne International is a health and wellness company which has formulated many skin care lines. It was originally developed by Petter Morck who intended to provide skin care products unparalleled in quality and effectiveness. Petter, together with a group of leading bio-chemists, biologists and herbalists, fulfilled his vision and founded Arbonne in 1975 in Switzerland and then launched in the United Stated in 1982.  The company continues to foster relationships with top MD’s and recently the Integrative medicine division of the Mayo Clinic. Arbonne formulas are based on botanical skin care principles and are formulated without animal products/by-products, parabens, gluten, formaldehyde donating preservatives, PABA or petrolatum based ingredients such as phthalates, mineral oil, petrolatum, benzene, toluene.

Arbonne 30+ sunscreen is unique because it contains plant botanicals that create a nurturing, jam-packed with antioxidants sunscreen. Not only do these antioxidants and anti aging ingredients help your skin remain youthful, these botanicals help offset the sun’s oxidating properties. Unlike many of its competitors, this sunscreen just melts into your skin and does not give even a glimmer of a grayish white film to the skin.   Arbonne uses a combination of Natural and chemical sunscreens.  Zinc is primarily the natural sunscreen ingredient because it works as a physical barrier on the skin. Chemical sunscreens, Oxybenzone and Avobenzone have also been added to enhance sun protection and are needed to give a sunscreen both UVA/UVB protection. All companies must follow this FDA Mandate. After many tests and research Oxybenzone and Avobenzone have been found to be the only true UVA blocker against Melanoma.

Arbonne also offers a 30+ sunscreen in their ABC baby line.  This is not only great for kids, but also for adults who tend to burn more easily.  Babies, men and women with even the most sensitive skin have been able apply this product without any reaction to the skin.  The sunscreen glides on effortless and does not create a white paste on the skin.

Lip Saver offers high 30+ sunscreen protection for your lips. It also includes anti aging ingredients to help moisturize your lips. Unlike many protective lip care chap sticks on the market, Arbonne does not use petroleum or mineral oil.  These oils only dry out your lips and are highly toxic.  It is like eating gasoline!

Garage Party By Harley Davidson

Garage Party By Harley Davidson

On Wednesday I was invited to participate in a Garage Party event and all I can say is that I spent the whole day gleaming!  It was an exhilarating experience. Personally, I have never considered buying a Harley Davidson.  I can say however, that after this experience I could easily envision a future with my own Harley Davidson parked in the garage. The Garage Party will take place in dealerships throughout the USA and each one will reflect the individual dealerships personality and style. Get ready ladies, this experience it is must!

Garage Party Harley Davidson

Harley-Davidson is the top-selling motorcycle brand among women in the U.S. Perhaps because more women are realizing the benefits of riding can extend to their daily lives, off the road.  According to a study conducted by Kelton and commissioned by Harley-Davidson, women who ride a Harley Davidson tend to be happier, confident, less stressed and sexier.  As explained by Claudia Garber; director of market outreach for Harley-Davidson,” What Harley Davidson thinks is really sexy is the strong, confident and happy woman. That is when sexy just starts to shine through!”

More Ways Life is Better on Two Wheels

According to the Harley-Davidson Women Riders Survey, the benefits of riding continue:

  • In work: More riders than non-riders (40% vs. 18%) feel extremely satisfied with their careers.

  • In the mirror: More than twice as many riders as non-riders (32% vs. 15%) agree that they feel beautiful daily.

  • In relationships: Women who ride are more content with communication with their significant other (60 percent of riders vs. 38 percent of non-riders) and physical intimacy (51 percent of riders vs. 35 percent of non-riders).

  • In spirit: More riders than non-riders (75% vs. 64%) usually feel content instead of worried, and almost a quarter (23%) of riders report that they rarely or never feel anxious.
