Organic Avenue
Cleanse – Day 4
by: Kathy Hodge

Well, today was harder than yesterday! I am noticing that one day I feel like I can conquer the cleanse, and the next day, reality comes and slaps me upside the head! Crunch therapy was definitely needed today! I suppose the good news is that the foods I am craving are healthy, unlike yesterday’s cheese steak. I am craving blueberries, sashimi, guacamole…..thankfully not all together!

I am happy that I did the cleanse. It has made me focus more on what I eat, as opposed to going through the motions, and I believe that the experience will enable me to make healthier choices and given me healthier eating habits. Not grab a slice of pizza because it is quick and easy, but getting something that is nutrient sound and better for my health. I have always been a big fan of smoothies, and while I don’t make them often, one of my favorites has always been a tropical concoction where I blend spinach, mango, bananas, etc. My cleanse has given me new ideas as to healthier combinations that are both filling and satisfying.

The cleanse has also allowed me to focus in on other areas in my life that I have thrown together. There is a need to cleanse and detox them as well. Living space, closet, things that I have been holding on to that serve no purpose. And while I know that I would have to go through and weed out things in my life, the cleanse has helped get over the procrastination.

My menu for day 3 is as follows; my shot of Chlorophyll; Pear juice; Young Love, which is Spinach, Cucumber, Celery; Green Embrace Smoothie; Raw Green Soup which is Lemon, Carrot, Cucumber, Parsley, Alkaline Water, Himalayan Salt, Cayenne Pepper, Cilantro, Pepper, Avocado, Onion ; Dandelion Cream Salad and Green Mylk.

While I am looking forward to my last day tomorrow, I am happy for what it has taught me, and I must therefore include my thought sent from Organic Avenue about My Day 4.

Organic Avenue - Cleanse Day 3
by: Kathy Hodge

So, last night as I was craving EVERY food known to mankind, I was thinking to myself, “What in the world did I get myself into??” “Why did I ever want to attempt a cleanse?” “Why didn’t I pick a 3 day cleanse?? 5days?? It’s going to be impossible!” Thoughts like that kept coming to my mind…I really didn’t think I would be able to master the task!

Wake up this morning, and low and behold, the cravings are gone. I feel fine. Not craving anything and I surprisingly am able to do my normal workday routine without thinking of food! Even when I saw my co-workers eat an incredible Spanish lunch! My friends did tell me it got easier…it’s nice to know they were right!

Granted, I did do a sideways glance at the Carl’s cheese steak sign (not something I indulge in frequently, but a few times a year it is great!) on my way home. But just a glance! And the funny thing is, while I wouldn’t mind a taste, I doubt I would enjoy more than that. Seems as though I am craving healthier things! I am very happy to have that as a benefit to the cleanse! I also think that I may have shrunken my appetite a bit. Another plus!

My menu for day 3 is as follows; my shot of Chlorophyll; Grapefruit juice; Green Love, which is Spinach, Swiss Chard, Kale , Cucumber, Celery, Green Apple and lemon juice; Blueberry Spirulina Smoothie; Sun Soup which is Lemon, Carrot, Cucumber, Celery, Himalayan Salt, Avocado, Sunflower Sprouts, Zucchini, Tarragon, Basil, Baby Greens ; Seaweed Salad and Green Mylk.
Yahoo! More than halfway done! Bring on day 4!

Skin Care

You wake up in the morning. Stretch your arms and yawn. You look around the bedroom, look outside your window, and think about what you’re going to wear for the day. It’s a bit gloomy in July, as if it was a February morning; the only difference is the humidity. You shower, blow out your hair sit on your bed with a hand mirror, and start applying your daily array of moisturizers and cover ups. But do you think about what you’re going to apply today to protect your skin? Did you know that regardless of the weather, overcast, sunny or rainy, within the first 5 minutes of stepping outside the sun has started damaging your skin. Did you know just driving to and from the store the sun is doing damage to the skin if not protected? It’s hard to imagine, I know, but this is a major contributing factor to our ageing process.

Did you know the air is full of free radicals trying to attack and kill your healthy beautiful skin cells? These free radicals are what cause us to age. Sun, smoke, alcohol, grease, these things all contribute to the ageing process.

What are some ways to help fight the aging process? These are my top recommendations! What have you got to lose? Just give it 6 weeks! If you’re not entirely impressed with the results then stop it and go back to what you were doing before. But I don’t think you will be disappointed. You will have healthy hydrated youthful looking skin.

Morning regimen:

Cleanse your face every morning with warm water and a nice foaming cleanser (dry skin; try Sonya Dakar’s UltraLux Nourishing Wash, for oily skin; Murad pomegranate foaming cleanser. Then splash with cold water.

Rather than piling on moisturizer after moisturizer, apply a nice serum that’s high in antioxidants and vitamins. I recommend for dry skin, Skinceuticals C+E Ferulic Acid serum. For Dry skin Phloretin CF These 2 product are broad spectrum antioxidants. Helps to protect against free radicals

Last is your sunscreen! Great, affordable and long lasting is the goal! There are so many to choose from so finding the right one for you is key. Here are a few that I am a fan of. La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL 50+, Neutrogena with helioplex SPF 85, and for the sport enthusiast skinceuticals makes a great water and sweat resistant SPF 45 sport.

Before you run out the door, take a 2oz shot of Mona*Vie (mymonavie.com/MollyM) Mona*Vie is an excellent way to get your full serving of fruits and vegetables in just a little 2oz shot! It is very high in antioxidants. Something your body needs to rebuild healthy cells at a faster pace. Mona*vie has also been studied to slowdown the ageing gene! What more do you need!!!

Night-time Regimen:

Cleanse with your morning cleanser with warm water. After rinsing splash face with cold water.

Night time is the perfect time to apply a nice reparative treatment. I love Topix DNA repair but for more mature skin Obagi makes a great one, Radical Night Repair Plus!

Last but not least your 3oz shot of Mona*Vie. You will sleep like a baby and your skin will be glowing by morning!
Now sit back relax and let the cells get to work!

Are you a product Junkie? Who in LA isn’t? What do you do with those products? They look nice, maybe a few of them are expensive? Products you think you’ll eventually use. But WHEN? Stop hoarding your products and letting them collect dust! Use them, toss’em or give them as a gift! I find myself going through my girlfriends products and tossing the oxidized, gooey, gross expired stuff, and developing a written out ,focused treatment regimen with the rest! It’s time for you to get some benefit off of what you have rather than just buying more stuff.

My goal as a skin care specialist is not for my clients to spend more money on products they won’t use, but to use what they have and get some results! I urge each and every one of you to make an appointment with your skin care specialist /Esthetician to figure out what gems are sitting in your cabinets at home!

At Healthy Skin Facial Spa in Beverly Hills, I encourage every client to bring in everything but the counter sink to your initial appointment. Your 90 minute session includes a skin and product consult along with a custom treatment and a written home regimen to continue your results at home. Don’t hesitate to call for an appointment.

August 7th and 11th Healthy Skin Facial Spa will be scheduling complimentary skin consults along with a complimentary 25 min treatment. Spaces are limited so call to confirm your appointment today! 310-777-0159 Gratuity not included.

It’s Longitude, a swimwear brand for curvy women that is bringing these styles back. You will love these one piece swimsuits that are affordable and trendy. I love the Tie Front Swim Dress! Organic Avenue-Cleanse Day 2
by: Kathy Hodge

Well, after finding yesterday to not be that difficult, I was lured into this false sense of security that “hey, this is going to be easy…..no problem……it will be a cake walk!” Boy was I mistaken!!! Today was TOUGH!!! Of course, it didn’t help that today is a Sunday for me. Sunday’s are normally reserved for catching up with friends, meeting for brunch, or at least coffee. It also didn’t help that I had to cancel last minute invites to brunch. I somehow saw myself eyeing their eggs benedict, and trying to steal a bite of their bagel. And I knew I would be swooning at the aroma of coffee…not a pretty site! So, my friends are great and completely understood and decided not to tempt me! While I am pretty stubborn and strong willed, I would NOT be able to leisurely sip my pear juice and watch them dive into a meal! Granted it was good pear juice, but it wasn’t going to work!

Another friend dragged me for a multi hour-many mile walk…..and far away from any food establishments. It helped! Not much as I still am anticipating when I can eat solid foods. The good news is that I will probably actually savor every bite, and find renewed joy in eating my meals. It won’t be mindless! I anticipate a new found joy in eating every bite!

Another friend who has undergone cleanses, suggested I was in dire need of what she termed “crunch therapy”. She suggested eating ice chips, and those indeed did help! She also suggested burying myself in non related food activities……shopping, museums, knitting or needlepoint projects. That did help as well. And again, cleaning and reorganizing and weeding out a lot of accumulated stuff no longer needed. Anything to keep my mind off of food.

I really did like my menu today which consisted of my chlorophyll shot; pear juice; veggie vibe which is lemon, carrot, spinach, cucumber, celery, parsley and beet; cacao smoothie; cucumber basil soup; sunflower sprouted salad; and coconut water. If I wasn’t craving bread, it probably would have been enough.

I am glad that I did get what I thought the roughest days out of the way at home. I made sure I didn’t have any munchies at home, avoided all take out, and with the exception of exercising and going for walks, I was able to avoid most of the pitfalls that I would have normally succumbed to and given into temptation. Day 3 and back to work with a normal routine (and watching co-workers eat) will bring new challenges! It is going to take more willpower than I expected, but hey, I will be halfway there!

I just spent time (a long time!) browsing www.shopsineny.com . I found some fabulous dresses & long rompers. They are Sine & Parameter designs. I am working on narrowing them to two for a couple of events that I have coming up this month. Here are the finalists (they are all on sale right now and available in my size!): Sine’s The Black Blossom Romper, Sine’s Sweet as Candy Dress, the Parameter Majestic Elegance Dress, the Sine, Midnight Escape Romper & Sine’s Ebb and Flow Dress. If you happen to be in Anthropologie or Bloomingdales, you’ll find Sine & Parameter there also. It’s so easy to shop online though…especially with sales like this!
