NeNe Leakes makes her “Glee” debut

January 24th, 2012

Celebrity Hairstylist Pat Sumpter Davis is stylist to famous Atlanta Housewife NeNe Leakes who made her “Glee” debut last week as synchronized swim coach “Roz Washington”.

Don’t forget to catch NeNe’s second “Glee” appearance on February 7th!

To achieve her character’s chic short look:

1. Pat began with cleansing NeNe’s hair with IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Advanced Color Protection Shampoo ideal for color treated tresses.

2. After gently towel drying, she molded the hair smooth and into the style direction she is wearing with IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Pure Water Drops, then having NeNe sit under a preheated dryer for 30 minutes.

3. Next, she applied White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Thermal Styling Spray to protect the hair from thermal styling. The FHI Heat 4/10 Inch Platform Flat Iron was used to separate and define her hair using small sections.

Star Stylist Tip: Pat starts at the back of her head and then works her way forward so she doesn’t miss any hairs.

4. To complete the style, she used a rake like comb to create texture and finished by using and additional amount of IT&LY HAIRFASHION’S Pure Water Drops to give a brilliant camera ready shine. For a long lasting hold, she misted NeNe’s hair with White Sands Infinity Hairspray.

Fur Free Fashion…

January 23rd, 2012

Born Free USA’s Fourth Annual Fashion Competition for Eco-Friendly Designers Announced

Independent fashion designers are invited to enter their fur free fashions in the fourth annual Born Free USA fffashion competition for a chance to win prizes, significantly boost their fashion career, be featured in a national magazine, and help promote the ethical and environmental benefits of fur free fashion.

Entrants will have the chance to have their submissions judged by an expert panel including international design and couture legend Elizabeth Emanuel, perhaps best-known for creating Princess Diana’s wedding gown; actress, best-selling author and beauty expert Victoria Principal; and Melissa Rivers, host of fashion events on TV Guide Channel and Fashion Police on E!, among other star-studded red carpet and reality programs.

The judging panel also includes Marina Draghici, Broadway, film and television Tony Award-winning costume designer and Hollywood stylist; Julia Barr, two-time Emmy Award winning actress most famous for her role as Brooke on “All My Children”; Brita Belli, editor of E/The Environmental Magazine; eco-model, activist and green living expert Summer Rayne Oakes; and fashion stylist and journalist Devon Poer.

According to Monica Engebretson, senior program associate at Born Free USA, who oversees the competition, “This is an extraordinary opportunity for emerging fashion designers to gain exposure in the industry and showcase their talent, while promoting compassionate eco-savvy designs. Born Free’s fffashion campaign and this annual competition aim to send a message to fashion designers, retailers, and consumers that fur has no place in socially conscious ethical fashion.”

Previous fffashion competition winners include designer Valerie Mayen, a competitor on the 2009 season of Project Runway.

To compete in 2012, designers must create a fur-free woman’s or man’s coat, shirt, pants, dress, skirt or suit. For details, rules, and to enter the competition, go to www.bornfreeusa.org/fffashion. Deadline for entries is April 15, 2012. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place, selected from the top ten finalists. There will also be a “Green Award” and a “Student Award.”

Born Free USA is a nationally recognized leader in animal welfare and wildlife conservation. Through litigation, legislation and public education, Born Free USA leads vital campaigns against animals in entertainment, exotic “pets,” trapping and fur, and the destructive international wildlife trade. Born Free USA brings to the United States the message of “compassionate conservation” — the vision of the United Kingdom-based Born Free Foundation, established in 1984 by Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna, stars of the iconic film “Born Free,” along with their son Will Travers, now chief executive officer of both organizations. Born Free’s mission is to end suffering of wild animals in captivity, conserve threatened and endangered species, and encourage compassionate conservation globally.

Bangs, Updos & PonyTails

January 18th, 2012

The Golden Globe Awards were held in Los Angeles, on Sunday, January 16th, honoring the year’s biggest achievements in film and TV. This year, stars took an artistic approach to their hairstyles and kept their looks modern, effortless and fun. We found three hot trends that are all surprisingly easy to re-create at home. Here they are:

Bangs: Stars like Nicole Ritchie, Zooey Deschanel and Emma Stone walked the red carpet sporting bangs ranging from blunt and modern to soft and swept to the side. The best way to achieve this look without making a single cut are the new E! Live from the Red Carpet Swept Away Bangs ($34; QVC.com) both styles offer a non-committal way to wear bangs.

Effortless yet Feminine: Instead of stiff styles, celebs opted for softer pulled back updo variations that looked undone yet effortless. This hairstyle is easy to achieve and looks good on anyone. Add some volume to your hair by prepping it with UNITE Expanda Dust ($26.25; Unitehair.com) throughout strands and pulling hair into either a chignon or ponytail by using your hands – not a brush.

Ponytails: Hair trends come and go, but keeping hair simply pulled back into a severe ponytail always makes a comeback to the red carpet. From Amanda Peet to Sarah Michelle Gellar, celebs wore their hair pulled back – what’s their secret to a full pony? Try adding in extensions with the new E! Live from the Red Carpet 23 inch Wrap Around Pony ($49; Extensions.com).

Kate Winslet’s Golden Globe look…

January 16th, 2012

Lancôme ambassadress Kate Winslet’s look from the Golden Globes was created by Avon Global Creative Color Director Jillian Dempsey.

“Kate Winslet’s look was shimmering, soft and sophisticated,” said Dempsey.

Here is how she did it:

She used taupe and champagne shades on Kate’s eyes and lots of rich mascara for extra definition. A pop of rose blush on her cheeks gave Kate a youthful, natural-looking flush. Jillian topped it off with a creamy rose lip color for a fresh finish.

Clearogen, It’s Frank approved!

January 15th, 2012

The Clearogen System from Advanced Skin & Hair has passed the test! This is a three piece system that includes Clearogen’s Foaming Cleanser, Clarfying Toner & Acne Lotion. Clinical studies reveal that in an eight week, double blind, placebo controlled, randomized study, Clearogen was compared to Benzoyl Peroxide 5% and outperformed it with reduction in irritation and decreased sebum production. But, what sold me, is that my 17 year old nephew Frank approves it! He says that compared to other acne control systems he has tried this gets the job done easily in three quick steps. He uses it every day.
