Jumpstart Your 2020 Resolutions

The holidays may not be here just yet, but that’s no reason not to begin focusing on your New Year’s resolutions. By setting your intentions for 2020 now, you can get a head start on establishing new habits and goals to make it easier to fulfill those resolutions in the new year.

Here are a few ideas to help get you started on a successful and meaningful 2020.

Boost Your Career

Looking to push your career forward? Then it might benefit you to learn a new technical skill. Start by taking a class now, whether online or in-person at a local school. Learn how to use a new computer program, how to code, how to build a website or another skill that is applicable in your career. If you are unsure of where to focus, look at job listings for different careers you’ve been eyeing and that require a certain skill set required for career advancement.

After completing your coursework, update your resume to include your new accomplishment. From there, review your resume with a career coach and some trusted friends to identify ways that it can be refreshed. Then make sure to get recommendations of any other additions you should make, like a digital portfolio or a personal website to showcase your professional achievements.

Strengthen Your Relationships

Say you want to strengthen your relationship with your first cousins or want to spend more, quality time with your aging grandparents. After determining whom you’d like to spend more time with, identify what relationships you want to strengthen in the new year. Then, set your intentions and create a plan for the ways in which you can achieve this.

Often, this work requires more from you than it does others, so be prepared to challenge your current mindset and do some work. Knowing this, broaden your horizons further by doing some self-help reading on the subject. You may also want to scour Amazon for top books that specifically address areas you wish to work on. This can be useful for helping you see things from a different vantage point.

Travel the World

If 2020 is going to be your year to tackle your neglected travel bucket list, now is the time to start saving and planning for those big trips. Start by estimating a rough amount of how much you need to save and then figure out how much you’ll need to stash away in savings.

You could put aside cash at home on a weekly basis, or if the temptation to spend is too great, open a new bank account and have a set amount of money directly deposited into it from each of your paychecks.

Advance planning can also help you save more money on your travel expenses. For instance, if you’re looking into taking a cruise, know that Alaska cruise packages tend to be the most economical when booked far in advance. Likewise, if you’re planning a trip abroad with friends or family, advance planning is also helpful to give everyone plenty of notice, so they can make the necessary arrangements to attend.

Make Your Health a Priority

Committing to better health and wellness is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions year after year, but it can also be the most challenging to pull off. To get a head start on 2020, build a few healthy habits now, so it becomes easier to integrate into your day-to-day life moving forward.

One of the easiest ways to do this is by committing to a form of exercise that you enjoy. Whether it’s walking, biking or the latest fitness craze, just make sure it’s something you will look forward to doing for better self-care. Another option is to start your day with a well-rounded meal. This could be a nourishing breakfast or even a healthy smoothie that contains essential nutrients like protein, fiber, greens and a quality fat.

Get Started Now to Thrive in 2020

Whether your New Year’s resolutions are focused on your health, career, travel or relationships, getting a jump on them now will help you establish the progress you need to keep these resolutions. This accomplishment can help you have a more successful year, so get started now if you want to really thrive in 2020.
