How to Look Your Best Naturally at College

15601597778_7450614c7d

Whilst you’re at college, most students don’t have the funds to afford expensive cosmetics and beauty products. However, looking good on campus is often essential for many college students, especially if you’re looking for MBA career opportunities after graduation and could run into a prospective employer at any time. We’ve listed some simple beauty tips to help you look your best at all times without having to spend a lot.

Invest in a Good Moisturizer

If you’re going to splash out on any beauty products at all, make sure that the product you choose is a good facial moisturizer. Using it daily will make your skin look and feel better than any expensive foundations could, and it’ll also help you to fight the signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. You should also choose a moisturizer that has SPF included, as this will protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, which are always present, even if it’s not a hot day.

Stay Hydrated

When it comes to looking after your appearance, making sure to drink enough water throughout the day plays a huge part. There’s nothing better than pure water for cleaning out the various toxins from your body and rehydrating you, giving you clearer skin and stronger hair and nails. Along with helping you to look your best, drinking plenty of water throughout the day will also improve your overall physical health and even increase your focus look at careers with an MBA. Drinking water throughout the day also helps to keep your teeth clean, avoiding plaque and keeping your pearly whites shining.

Eat Protein

Getting plenty of protein in your diet will significantly improve your overall health, appearance and your figure. High protein diets are some of the best for losing weight, even if you haven’t got the time to work out every day. Along with that, some high-protein foods such as many types of fish are also high in Omega 3 fatty acids, which can help to improve the condition of your skin, hair and nails, along with giving you more energy and reducing the appearance of dark circles and bags under the eyes.

Sleep Well

If you’re not getting enough sleep at night, this can soon begin to take its toll on your health and your appearance. Sleep deprivation can lead to skin problems, tired eyes, dark circles, and even early signs of aging! Getting enough sleep enables your body and your mind to recover from the stresses of the day.

Exercise

Getting enough physical exercise will help you to keep your figure maintained and improve your overall appearance. Exercise is not only effective for weight loss, it also helps to flush toxins out of your body through sweating, which will lead to clearer skin, less spots, and healthier hair and nails.

There’s no need to spend money on expensive beauty products to improve your appearance in college. These are all easy and inexpensive ways to naturally look your best.

From the Pros: Plastic Surgeon With Red Flags on Plastic Surgery Procedures

unnamed-4

The name of the game today in cosmetic surgery is fast and non-invasive. The reasons are obvious. Nobody wants to be bedridden out of work and off the social grid as they recover. Fast results of a thinner, tighter, younger look within an hour is very alluring. How many of these seemingly miracle procedures actually do what they claim to? We turned to board certified Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Kirk Brandow to breakdown cosmetic surgery hype; which procedures are zeros not heroes.

Kybella

This injection is made of deoxycholic acid, which is actually produced by the body naturally to absorb fat. The synthetic version is a fat cell destroyer injected into the pocket of fat below the chin. So far this is the only location on the body for which Kybella is FDA-approved. Dr. Brandow cautions, “Kybella may shrink fat but it’s also an acid which could burn the skin and cause an abscess or an open wound if placed too close to the skin. Equally important is that it can also destroy the deeper tissues as well which could lead to a dent just under the chin.” Another issue with Kybella according to Dr. Brandow is potential for ‘redistribution of fat’ to other areas of the neck when people gain weight, over time. “The loss of fat in this focused, Kybella, injected spot will look odd when areas around it are heavier looking.”

Instabreast

If you’ve ever considered a breast augmentation, it’s not hard to understand the appeal of “test-driving” a pair of implants for a day. This “try it before you buy it” procedure called Instabreast takes about twenty minutes in office. A saline solution is injected into the breasts until they are enlarged to the desired size. Surgeons who offer the procedure claim that it takes the guesswork out of planning an augmentation by providing patients with 24 hours of experience with larger breasts.

“This is crazy!!” says Dr. Brandow. “How do you anesthetize the breast before you shoot in the saline? Wouldn’t this hurt? Just the thought of it would scare off my patients. Additionally, implants on top of the muscle versus under the muscle look different and the size you use on top looks totally different from the one you would use under the muscle.” Dr. Brandow questions the safety of injecting saline under the muscle in office with a local anesthetic. “I would say it’s a recipe for a punctured lung! Additionally, I would love to know how a surgeon inflates a young, tight skinned, A- cup woman who wants a full C- cup, without causing a lot of pain during that injection.”

Mesotherapy and Lipodissolve as a Fat Dissolver

Several cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists agree that if there is one procedure to avoid when shopping for a slimmer look, it’s one called lipodissolve, a shot that claims to dissolve away stubborn fat deposits. This shot is often part of “mesotherapy;” a shallow injection of a cocktail of substances using a fine needle. “There is really not a single scientific study to show that it definitely works,” says Dr. Brandow. Are these chemicals safe when injected into fat? What happens to this fat? Where does it go? Dr. Brandow feels lipodissolve is an ill-advised treatment. “This is a non-FDA approved use of a material called lipostabil, which can dissolve fat and other structures however, it can cause pain, swelling, hard lumps, ulceration of the skin, and contour irregularities. None of the pharmaceuticals used for injection are FDA approved.”

Laser Liposuction

It seems like everything that has the word “laser” in it today is perceived as a state-of-the-art breakthrough, but in this case, using laser to assist in liposuction is not necessarily so. Laser liposuction uses lasers to liquefy the fat before it is removed, making it easier to vacuum out and they may also stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which results in firmer, tighter, and smoother skin. Lasers may also coagulate small blood vessels in the area, which translates to less bruising. What’s the downside? Dr. Brandow points out that, “There is greater risk of burning and therefore, pain. Laser liposuction, Smartlipo and similar procedures add both time and money to the typical technique.”

From the pros: 9 Things Your Dentist Wants You to Know

bios_Image_1453736598_tn

Dr. Caitlin Grimes

Most of us don’t exactly get fired up about a visit to the dentist. Often, we let those bi-annual appointments slide and wait to visit the dentist until we have a more serious problem. What many people don’t realize, however, is that regular dental visits and maintaining oral hygiene are closely tied overall health. You wouldn’t skip a visit to the cardiologist if your heart was bothering you, right? Well, the same goes for your dentist.
Dr. Caitlin Grimes at StoneCreek Dental Care has compiled a list of nine important things your dentist wants you to know so that you can achieve optimal oral and overall health:
1. Your mouth is full of bacteria — you MUST brush your teeth. It’s not something we like to think about, but our mouths are full of bacteria – some of which can be harmful to our teeth and overall health. Harmful bacteria erode teeth and contribute to periodontal (gum) disease, which is why brushing your teeth at least twice daily for two minutes is absolutely essential. Remember – brushing is vital, but if you overdo it you may damage your gums. Brush gently at a 45-degree angle to effectively remove the bacteria that causes plaque buildup and decay.

2. Flossing isn’t optional either. If you’re not flossing regularly, you really should be (and your dentist can tell if you aren’t). Flossing removes food debris and bacteria that gets stuck between teeth. Be sure to check with your dentist to make sure you’re flossing correctly!

3. Your dentist can detect issues early. This might seem overly obvious, but the best way to prevent dental pain is to visit your dentist. Many dental issues are not painful initially, so when you visit your dentist he or she can detect any minor issues before they turn into major ones. Your dentist can fill a small cavity, for example, before it has the chance to get infected and cause a painful tooth abscess.

4. Poor oral health contributes to poor overall health. Did you know that if you have gum disease you are much more likely to have a heart attack or stroke? This risk increases when those harmful bacteria travel through the bloodstream to the rest of the body and increase inflammation. Oral health can greatly impact your overall health, and vice versa.

5. Smoking will ruin your teeth. Aside from yellowing your teeth, smoking contributes to bad breath, receding gums and a dry mouth. A dry mouth is much more prone to harboring bad bacteria, leading to plaque buildup and tooth decay. Smoking also decreases your body’s ability to fight off infection in the mouth, and contributes to the development of oral cancer. The bottom line – kick that habit ASAP!

6. Change your toothbrush every three months. Over time, your toothbrush loses its effectiveness. The bristles become frayed and do not work as well as they once did, and the bad bacteria that lives in your mouth builds up on your toothbrush. If you have gum disease, you need to change your toothbrush more often — every four to six weeks. If you’ve been sick, it’s especially important to change your toothbrush afterwards to get rid of any germs.

7. Bleeding gums are usually not “normal.” Bleeding gums can be the result of several factors. You might be using a toothbrush with hard bristles and brushing too vigorously. Bleeding gums may also signal an improper flossing technique. At worst, bleeding gums are a sign of gum disease. Regardless of the cause, if your gums are bleeding be sure to ask your dentist about it!

8. There’s more to that regular dental visit than cleaning. Your dentist isn’t just there to clean your teeth and give you a brighter smile. During your regular dental visit, he or she will also check your mouth for signs of tooth decay, gum disease and oral cancer. These issues are much easier to treat if found early.

9. Your dentist is here to help you, not judge you. Some people do not visit the dentist because they are embarrassed about their teeth or an issue with their mouth. Don’t worry — your dentist has been highly trained in treating a variety of issues, and will be able to talk through any concerns you may have and discuss the appropriate treatment options.

With these nine things in mind, be sure to make and keep your regular dental appointments so you can take control of your dental and overall health. Every patient is different, so your dentist will work with you to address your individual needs and ensure you have the healthiest smile possible!

Top Ways to Put Together a Professional Wardrobe on a Tight Budget

Now that you’ve almost finished your master of education in learning, cognition and development degree it’s time to start thinking ahead to your future career. Because you will be working in a professional environment, professional business attire is necessary. The problem is that it can be rather expensive to build a wardrobe suitable for work.

Not to worry as we’ve got some great tips that you can use to build a professional and work appropriate wardrobe, even on your tight student budget. You’ll be able to show up for interviews looking polished and ready to get to work.

dressing for the wrokplace

Stick to the Staples

Before you get lured in by trendy designs, it’s important to pick up the staples. Any work appropriate wardrobe is built on a few key pieces that can be mixed and matched with other, less expensive pieces.

Your key pieces should be a couple pairs of good quality trousers in a neutral shade (black, grey, brown, or navy), and a blazer to match each pair. You don’t necessarily have to purchase the items as a “suit”, but sometimes that can prove to be cheaper. You will also want to pick up one knee length simple black dress that can be paired with one of the blazers and/or a blouse.

For these key pieces you want to pick items that don’t have prints and designs on them. These tend to be trendy so before you know it, they will be out of fashion. As well, they don’t always come off as professional.

Keep Shoes and Purses Neutral

When it comes to footwear and purses/bags you want to keep these neutral as well. There’s no need to have multiple pairs of shoes in every color of the rainbow. Use the rule of sticking to the staples and pick a pair of comfortable black or brown shoes. The same goes for your purse, a simple neutral colored bag is the best way to go.

Let Accessories Do the Talking

If your wardrobe of staples and neutrals feels a bit bland, there are inexpensive ways you can dress it up. Look to use accessories that add color and style. A fun necklace, a chunky cuff bracelet, drop earrings, these are the sorts of items that can totally change the look of your outfit.

Watch for Sales

And of course the last tip is to watch for sales. With the amount of sales, coupons, and promotions that stores offer, there is really no reason that you should be paying full price for anything. If you can shop off-season you’ll manage to save even more.

A Wardrobe You Feel Confident In

Building a wardrobe that is work appropriate will be a big step in landing your first job after completing your online MELCD degree program. There’s also the fact that when you’re dressed well, and you fit into the environment, you can’t help but feel confident and good about yourself. This is something that is sure to impress potential employers.

Are You Ready to hit your target?

Bow and arrow

Are you ready to conquer those things on your New Year’s resolution list once and for all? What has been on your list every year for a long time and you still haven’t conquered it? Let me guess …losing weight, exercising more and eating better, right? You start the year out hard for the first month or so and then you fall back into your old patterns. The year has passed and you have it on your list again the following year. It stops this year. Let’s cross it off your list for good. Are you ready? Are you willing to do the work? Grab your pen, yes pen and find a quiet place to focus on these 3 questions.

Why do you want to lose weight? – Start with the why.  Make a list of why you want to lose weight. Take a moment with this. Is it to look good for an upcoming event? Or to reduce your risk of a heart attack. Your why is very important it will keep you focused on your outcome.

What have you done in the pass to reach your goal? – Look at the steps you did before to make it work for you? Stick with the things that worked and drop the things that didn’t. You must do something different if you want different results.

Who do you have for support? – Find yourself a person that can support YOU. It is so important to have that person or persons that will be there when you are feeling weak. Willpower only works when you are willing to do it, but if you have a partner, that person can be strong when you are not. Teamwork is the dreamwork.

By knowing the why, what and who, you are on the path to success. You can cross those things off your list the following year and replace them with maintaining your weight lost.

Home Decor and Roof Repair- Getting a New Roof and Decorating your Home

Whether you urgently need to replace your current roof or are in the middle of an ongoing roofing project, there are always professionals who can help. There are different reasons why you may need to invest in a new roof. The roofing process can be challenging but in the end it is always assuring to know that you have a properly installed roof that will protect your home.

New Roofs

Some of the reasons for considering new roofs include increasing the value of your home, moving into a new home, leaks as well as signs of damage and the adverse effects of extreme weather conditions such as storms. The life expectancy of roofs varies, with many being expected to last for approximately 10 years. It is highly recommended for home owners to think about replacing their roofs, especially if the roof is significantly older.

Protection

Waiting until roofing problems such as mold and water leaks occur should be avoided. A roof that is in bad condition does not only ruin the appearance of your home, it can be extremely hazardous for you and your loved ones.

Leaking roofs can cause mildew and mold problems to develop around the home. Mold issues are not usually discovered until the installation of a new roof. At this point, you and your family may be susceptible to the health challenges that are associated with mold spores. Keeping a leaky roof is not worth risking your wellbeing for. Energy Efficiency

Along with being a valuable addition to your home, new roofing may enable you to save money. Modern roofing offers improved energy efficiency. If you rely on older roofing technology, you may be missing out in the benefits of an energy efficient roof such as reduced cooling and heating bills. A good roof also contributes to the general comfort of your home.

Home Decor- Furniture and Space Utility

  • A critical aspect of effective home decor is furniture arrangement. Furniture is not only functional, it is decorative as well. It should always be arranged in a way that utilizes the amount of space available while enabling people to relax, engage in conversation, move around and enjoy being in the room.
  • If the space you have is limited, avoid cramming several pieces into it. For people who have large spaces, it can be challenging to determine what to do with all the space. Combine pieces such as sofas, chairs and tables strategically within small spaces. The goal is to have the furniture you need without compromising on the amount of space that you actually have.
  • For smaller spaces, there are different furnishing options that you can creatively use to such as corner seating that does not require a lot of room. Incorporate empty spaces in your decor. Spacious rooms do not be filled to the brim.

Balance

As long as you maintain a sense of balance, each room will serve its purpose effectively. When furniture is a priority, you should design and decorate your home while considering the sizes of the rooms. Space utility is a major component of any decorating endeavor.
