MEDIUMS HAVE FASHION TASTES THAT AREN’T DEAD!

499271409_960

When we think of seeing a psychic or medium, we think of either a person who is dressed like death is on their front door-step, or of an individual who has an elaborate style, funky hair-do and exaggerating an old-fashioned hippy outfit (think Miss Cleo). However, that is not the case at all for Medium Fleur, who is one of the world’s most recognized female mediums that is based here in Hollywood.

From Emma Roberts to Lana Del Rey, Medium Fleur has a high profile client list that seek her out to connect with those who have passed on. She also does live audience shows around the country, helping people to find closure with those who have died.

I just had to interview her about her abilities, what dead people wear when she sees them, and sense of her own personal fashion & style in her line of work…

NN: How would you describe your own personal style- both while at home and while you are doing readings and live shows?

MF: I’ve always had an affinity for dresses and heels, and I love getting dressed up. I feel most confident in a pair of high heels, so I rarely go on stage without them!

NN: What do you have to say to those who think Mediums have no style?

MF: Mediums are as unique from each other as people in any profession. Some will be stylish, others may not be. One thing is for sure- I have yet to meet a Medium who only wears long flowing dresses, bangles, and a gypsy turban.

NN: When you see and speak to dead people. what type of outfits are they wearing?

MF: The spirit world doesn’t have a need for clothing in the same way we do. However, they may show or describe what they are wearing to provide evidence about who they are. Fashion style can be a very important in someones life, so when they have passed they may show a Medium a specific outfit, hairstyle, or certain jewelry to help communicate that it is truly them.

NN: What is something about Mediums that people may not know or understand?

MF: Mediumship is a gift, but it needs to be developed. I was born with a natural gift for mediumship, yet I have spent a great deal of time sharpening and enhancing my connection. My training has centered around meditation, mindfulness, and cultivating mental stillness to maintain a clear connection to the spirit world.

NN: What is your advice to anyone wanting to channel their own abilities/talents?

MF: I absolutely believe that everyone is intuitive. If you have a soul, and everyone does, then you have access to psychic information. When you learn to trust these moments of intuition, you are connecting to your own psychic ability. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes. For this reason, I encourage my students to keep a journal of these moments so they can see for themselves how their seemingly coincidental hunches occur often, and can be trusted and acted upon.

NN: What is the best advice you were ever given?

MF: “Fear is the worst advisor”

NN: Where can people go get a reading done by you?

MF: If it’s your first time experiencing mediumship, an audience show is a great place to start! During the show, I give messages from the other side to members of the audience. Upcoming shows are listed on my website at www.mediumfleur.com. I also offer private phone readings and in-person readings in Los Angeles.

Here is some exciting news from Sally Hansen:

Finally, gorgeous “Color That Cares While You Wear.” The first Sally Hansen nail polish that uniquely blends saturated color and nourishing argan oil in 38 stunning shades created in partnership with Global Color Ambassador, Madeline Poole.

Sally Hansen continues to lead in innovation by introducing its new Color Therapy products:  a nail polish, top coat, and nail & cuticle oil, inspired by women’s desire to wear beautiful color while simultaneously caring for their nails. Sally Hansen’s Color Therapy nail polish contains a patented micro-delivery system that delivers an argan oil-enriched formula, resulting in intensive nourishment and instant moisture for healthier-looking nails. The Color Therapy nail polish needs no base coat so the oil complex can directly contact the bare nail. 9 out of 10 women experienced a noticeable improvement in their natural nails after wearing the Color Therapy nail polish. Vibrant tones, available in three magnificent palettes, glide on for a radiant, shiny finish with up to 10 days of fade-proof, chip-resistant wear. The Color Therapy nail polish provides the ultimate color that cares while you wear, with everything needed to restore nails without sacrificing luminous color.

Complete your manicure with the Color Therapy top coat and nail & cuticle oil, both formulated with the same argan oil contained in the nail polish. The top coat provides an ultra-glossy finish for extended wear, and the nail & cuticle oil, the ultimate in nail therapy, instantly makes nails and cuticles look healthier, restored, and rejuvenated.

The Ingredient Story
Color Therapy blends a complex of natural argan, acai, and evening primrose oil to condition weak, dry nails. Argan oil contains high levels of unsaturated fatty acids, as well as vitamin E, an antioxidant vital for healthy skin and nails. Acai berry oil is rich in omega-3, 6, and 9 essential fatty acids that are valued for nutrition and conditioning in skin and hair care. Evening primrose oil features essential fatty acids that are known to help reinforce hair strength.

GET THE LOOK: CHRISSY TEIGEN WITH LAURA POLKO

unnamed-1

  • 1.Part hair in the middle and smooth out using a Mason Pearson brush. Use a hair primer to smooth out the blowout and keep hair straight.
  • 2.Collect the hair into a very sleek low ponytail.  Laura sprayed hairspray close to the hairline to remove any small flyaways, before securing with a scunci black hair tie.
  • 3.Once hair was secure in a ponytail, she knotted a piece of long black elastic cord (a few feet long), that she purchased from a fabric store, which she anchored to the scunci hair tie.
  • 4.Next, she continuously wrapped the long cord tightly from top to bottom of the ponytail to add texture.  There is no rhyme or reason, make it as close or as far apart as you want.
  • 5.Then, secure with another black scunci hair tie and anchor and loop hair through to cause a flip/loop at the bottom.
  • 6.Lastly, for any fringe or flyaways on the sides, crisscross scunci bobby pins (about 8) on with side behind the ear for added detail.

Keysocks are Key for me when wearing flats

p349565b
These socks are a great addition to your fall/spring wardrobe. I have always had two main issues with “flats season.” 1- I have terrible circulation and my feet are always cold, and 2- the stinky feet/shoes that come without wearing socks all day. Also, the pain and blisters that come with breaking in a new pair of flats. Key socks eliminate all of those issues while still allowing you to wear your cute flats. I’ve tried a number of different low cut skimmer type of socks and they either aren’t cut low enough and are very visible (aka awkward looking) above the edge of the flat, or are low and slip off your heel within an hour of wearing them. The “key” to these socks (pun intended) is the low cut around the foot and toe so you don’t see them above the shoe, and that they stay connected around the back of the heel (which are hidden by your pant leg) and stay held up all day.

How to Choose Kurtis by Considering the Shape of the Body

42704_0n

While saree can be worn by one and all regardless of the body shape, the same is not applicable for kurtis. Kurtis have to be selected with the body shape in mind. Improper selection of kurti can make you look strange but would still make heads turn, though for different reasons. Before you know kurtis, you have to know about your body better. What kind of a body you have has to be understood well. If you have any confusion, get rid of it by consulting someone on whom you can rely. Make sure that you have determined your body shape correctly

Kurti and body shape

Since kurti designs are dependent on the body shape, it might restrict your choice to some extent.Suppose you want to buy a kurti with mandarin collar. First you have to be sure that you do not have a body that is shaped like an apple. Then only you can buy it. Making a wrong choice can make you look horrible and you may even start disliking your appearance.

Shapes of the body and kurti selection

  • Apple shape – Women who have larger stomach and bust as compared to the hips come under this category. Since the hips are slimmer, the figure appears to be top heavy.   Belt pattern and V-neck kurtis go well with this kind of body shape. Kurtis should be short in length so as to make the legs visible that apparently diminishes the effects of top-heavy appearance. Cotton should be the preferred fabric while the choice of color is best left up to you.
  • Pear shape – In contrast to women with apple shaped bodies, pear-shaped bodies can best be described as just the opposite. The lower body is heavier that the upper part. The hips are much wider than shoulders. Since the lower part of the body could be a cause of imbalance to the body shape, viewers’ attention should be drawn to the shoulders. Tunic type kurtis that cover the lower part of the body is most preferred. Light colored A-line kurtis with attractive neckline can be worn.
  • Inverted triangle shape – Women with a broad chest and wide shoulder represent the inverted triangle type of body. As the lower body is lighter, kurtis selected should be such that the attention is drawn to the lower body. You can buy designer kurtis online with strap patterns. Avoid the boat a neckline. Heavy embroidery or designs around the shoulders are to be avoided.
  • Rectangle shape – Also known as the banana shape, this kind of body is waif-like with the same measurements of hips and shoulders. There are no curves perceivable. Short frock style kurti looks good on such body but a tight fit should be avoided.
  • Hour glass figure – This is the dream figure for any woman as shoulders, bust and hips are in perfect proportion. Loose fitting kurtis hide the curves well.

Measure your body first and then select the type of kurti design that is just right for you.

The beauty and the bruising

dermend

DerMend

Since I was a child, I bruise easily. My Mom was always so concerned she sought after several doctors to find out why. Well, I guess I just easily bruise although sometimes my B-12 gets low and I do bruise more than my usual “lots of bruises” at those times. I have got photos of some of my bruising, which I may post in a follow up posting. They are a bit embarrassing. Generally, they appear on my upper thighs and arms but strangely, they sometimes show up in the oddest places and in small clusters. In winter, it’s not so bad as the bruising is hidden but in Spring and Summer, it’s quite frustrating as I love wearing dresses with bare legs and tanks and shorts.

I use Arnica Montana after a recommendation from a dermatologist, orally and topically, when I notice more bruising appearing or when I bump myself and know the results will be “black and blue”.

I recently tried the DerMend brand of moisturizing bruise formula. It’s easily available at drugstores like Walgreens and CVS Pharmacies and mass retailers like WalMart. It has Arnica in the formulation. It indicates that it is “Dermatologist Recommended” right on the top of the tube. That caught my eye. The formula contains alpha hydroxy acid also. The combination of that and Arnica seems right on to me.

I have not been using it regularly and the directions indicate that you should use it twice daily. I am not the beast with routines. I will be more committed in the future. The first time I tried it, the first words I said were “it goes on nice”. It smells pleasant too and absorbs well.

I am headed to New York for a business trip and inevitably, I will return with bruises. I am taking along the DerMend bruise formula with me and I will use it twice daily. Last trip to NY, I really tripped, well, rather just full on fell onto my knees while climbing stairs. The bruising was crazy bad and almost instant. This time, I am traveling prepared with the cream and some comfy shoes for walking. Typing and thinking this reminded me of my days attending the Emmy’s as a publicist, yikes! The bruises I got every time there…wow! There are really just too many people in the outdoor crowds there. Bumping and banging into each other to see the stars.

Please keep in mind that according to http://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org “Bruising easily can be normal in some people and becomes more common as we age. But bruising easily may also signal an underlying medical problem. You should have this problem evaluated by your primary care doctor, especially if the bruising developed recently or has become more frequent or more severe.”

TALKING STYLE, BEAUTY & FITNESS WITH KENNEDY SUMMERS!

img_2774-2

The fabulous daughter of a U.S. serviceman, Kennedy Summers was born in Berlin, Germany but raised in Virginia. She started modeling at a young age, and hasn’t turned back since. These days, Kennedy holds many titles: She is a Playboy Playmate of the Year, social media queen (with millions of followers), 3rd year Med. student, and recognized around the globe as a top model & fitness expert.

It’s A Glam Thing sat down with Kennedy at her home in Hollywood to find out more about her style, favorite designers and life in the public eye…

NN: How would you describe your own personal style – both while at home and on the red carpet?

KS: I would say that my style is classic, with a little bit of rock and roll. I like to wear solid colors, but I like to spice things up with fun jewelry. I like to make sure to wear things that my future kids won’t see in photos and laugh!

NN: What are some of your favorite beauty products that you use to get red-carpet ready?

KS: I swear by jojoba oil. I always put it on under my foundation because it keeps it from looking cake-y! I also love MAC lipliners because they stay for hours.

NN: Who are some of your favorite fashion designers to wear?

KS: Chanel has always been my favorite. The pieces are iconic and you can’t beat a properly tailored fit. I really, really love YSL for their shoes.

NN: Do you hate it when the paparazzi catch you in certain outfits?

KS: Oh my gosh, yes! They caught me walking my dog after a lunch meeting in a dress that wasn’t wind-approved! One big gust and he (and TMZ!) saw everything!!

NN: What is your favorite Instagram filter? Or #NoFilter?

KS: I’m all about #NoFilter! I feel like it makes my skin color look weird if I use them.

NN: What Top 3 Fashion Trends in Hollywood do you LOVE right now?

KS: I love the statement chokers, tall boots, and the extra-long sleeves that hit the runways for Fall.

NN: What is your advice to anyone wanting to get into modeling?

KS: If you want to get into modeling, just go for it! Start by building up your social media, especially because agencies always ask how many followers you have! Most importantly, stay healthy. I eat vegan and I work out six days a week, even if it’s just for twenty-five minutes.

NN: What is something about models that some people may not know?

KS: Models do have substance, too. Many of us are entrepreneurs, college graduates, mothers, and intellectuals. I want people to consider that maybe we are using our looks to get by, not because we are stupid, but because we are smart. We may not value looks over everything else, but a lot of people do. We just capitalize on that.

NN: Now that you have conquered Playboy, what’s next?

KS: I just started a fitness company called PlayOne Fitness. We make customized fitness videos for you to do at home, just like if you had a trainer!
