Exciting news from DOVE: Dove Love Your Curls Emojis

unnamed
Have you ever taken a close look at your Emoji keyboard and noticed that one very popular hair type is missing? If you are part of the 1 in 3 women in the U.S. with curly hair, chances are you have.

Today, Dove Hair will put an end to this #CurlyHairProb by launching the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis. This is an extension of Dove Hair’s Love Your Curls mission, and is a Global launch with a purpose – to help women and girls embrace and love their curls by ensuring they see accurate reflections of their hair in their everyday lives.

· 1 in 3 women in the U.S. have curly hair, and 74% of people in the U.S. report using Emojis daily. Yet there continues to be no representation of curly hair available in the Unicode Emoji keyboard.

· While Emojis are diversifying (as evidenced by the last update), there is still a “one size fits all” for hair – straight and sleek, the traditional beauty ideal. Reports on the next round of Emojis to be added to the official keyboard still do not include curly hair, either.

· Knowing it takes extensive time to petition Unicode to update its keyboard, Dove Hair will offer an immediate solution for all of the curly women and girls who currently have no accurate representation of their hair when “speaking” in the increasingly common social language of Emojis.

· How to get the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis:

Available for free download in the App Store or Google Play (this Smart-URL: http://bit.ly/DoveKB will direct users to the correct app store based on their device)
· Additionally, today, Dove Hair will kick off a partnership with Twitter, so every time someone tweets “#LoveYourCurls, a curly Emoji will automatically appear within the tweet right after the hashtag.

unnamed-1

Research Findings:
· Girls are growing up in a world of technology, but 3 in 5 women say they cannot accurately depict how they look using emojis

· 82% of curly-haired women say they would like to see more female emoji options depicting what their hair looks like

· 72% of curly-haired women want to use an emoji that looks like them when expressing emotions via text
Expert:
· We are also working with Sali Tagliamonte, a Linguist who specializes in the field of language variation and change. She is available to speak to the cultural conversation taking place about how adolescents see Emojis as a new, social language – and the importance of accurate self-expression and representation in all aspects of language.

Be Like a Tree…Change and Let GO!

tree

More than 10 million women are suffering with their body image and it can affect your self-esteem. I am one of the 10 million women that suffers with their body image. I confess, I am coming clean and speaking 100% honest to you. I have lost over 115 pounds and still suffer with my body image. When I look in the mirror I don’t see the image that everyone else sees. It is weird to explain to those of you who have not lost a lot of weight or even gained weight, our minds eye sees what it wants to see versus with is really reflected in the mirror.

You have seen women walking down the street and think, what in the world? Did they NOT look in the mirror before they left the house? (or it could be you) Chances are they did and they really liked what they saw. That is why they are walking out in the streets head up and chest out. It’s so hard to judge others because I know I am guilty of it myself. Almost all of us were either small and gained weight or big and lost weight, but the true test is how we adjust. There are many things that need to adjust, our wardrobe, our attitude, our mind set. We must adjust to reflect that change that has physically taken place. I know that it is hard for us to see our true image, the image that others see us as, our minds eye is very powerful, trust me. Let me share with you some of the tricks and tips that I have learned to use to view myself.

When I look in the mirror, I see a little chunky Elizabeth looking back at me. But in order to see what others see, I take a picture of myself….the camera does not lie. Have you seen a picture of yourself and say “Do I really look like that?” or “Do I look fat?” Well it could be the lighting, it could be that you are in mid smile or mid conversation but your body is what it is. So if you say Dang I look fat in this picture…..that’s probably how other people see you. It could be a million reasons why the picture is not flattering but if you are finding yourself saying “I look fat” in almost every picture you take, you really should look at yourself as you are and not as you were.

There are several things you can do to help improve your self-image and self-esteem. We all know the most obvious is working out and eating right. When we take time to be good to our bodies we really feel good about ourselves. Our self-esteem gets a boost regardless of the scale, we feel as though we are in control, we are making ourselves strong and healthy, instead of letting everything control our bodies.

Another way to feel good about yourself is get new clothes, that fit! I know you used to wear a size 8 but now you are a size 10 or vice versa. No one sees the size of your clothes, the tag is on the inside of your clothes for a reason. Find the size that fits your body style no matter the size on the tag. When you are wearing the proper size jeans no one is saying Dang, I wonder what size those jeans are she is wearing. They are saying Dang she is rocking those jeans!! However, try to squeeze your size 10 into a size 8 and the responses will be a whole lot different. First of all, you won’t feel comfortable and others will be able to tell that as well.

Try a new hair style. Getting a new do is hard, trust me I know. If you have had the same hair style for the past 10 years, it’s time for a change. A cut, new color or even a part on the opposite side. Change is good, not easy but good, it pushes us out of our comfort zone and shakes us up a bit. The great thing about hair is, that it’s just hair and it will grow back or easily change back to what you had before. Try to sit with that new do for at least 4 weeks before going back to your safe style.

Let’s take a lesson from the trees, watch how they change and let things go. This is a great time of the year to clean out your closet, set those new goals, change and let go of the old.

Butterfly Studio Salon Hairstyles

Let your hair be your best accessory this holiday season with statement making hairstyles for both guys and girls from Butterfly Studio Salon stylists, Dana Tizzio and Jason J. Dougherty.

Dana Tizzio’s “Pretty Ponytail”

Dana Tizzio’s “Pretty Ponytail”

Upgrade a worn ponytail from day to night by taking out that pony and shaking it as hard as you can just to create some body.

 1.       Grab your purse-size dry texturizing spray  like Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Insta-Thick, $20, and apply through entire head, roots to tips.

2.       Shake hair out, using your hands as well to break up, lift, and activate your spray.

3.       Pull hair back, taking one section at a time to create a super textured look (versus slicked back and smooth).

4.       Secure above or at the curve of the head with a hair tie (the positioning makes it more playful.)

5.       Gently pull on the hair to create height and adjust the look.

6.       Wrap a small section of hair around the base of the pony and tuck for a messy, sexy ponytail or add a metallic pony cuff for a chic way to accessorize the look.

Dana Tizzio’s “10 Minute (No brush) Updo Braid”

Dana Tizzio’s “10 Minute (No brush) UpdoBraid”

This DIY ‘do will take you from a bad hair moment or a long day at the office to black tie-chic without any hot tools or hair prep. Not even a hairbrush is required! All you’ll need is a few pins, hair ties, and a mini/travel-sized version of your favorite dry shampoo/texturizing spray.

  1. Section 1/4 hair from side part to ear, and add Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Insta-Thick, $20 for volume.
  2. Start braid at part, focusing braid at front of forehead, and secure end with elastic.
  3. Spritz more Insta-thick spray throughout hair to enhance texture for easier styling.
  4. Without brushing, twist all of hair to the side of braid and secure with elastic, creating a ponytail.
  5. Braid ponytail, including front braid, and secure end with elastic. (It does not need to be tight)
  6. Hold one piece of braid at the end with one hand. With the other hand, push entire braid upward from the bottom with your fingers to create a rouging effect.
  7. Wrap braid to create a bun or knot shape, nestled on one side of your head for the best look. You want your style to be seen!
  8. Secure with bobby pins, and use the hair pins to manage any loose ends.
  9. Loosen the front of the braid and work your way back. Widen from the start of the braid for an effect that beautifully frames your face by pulling apart gently on each section. This will create a softer and more romantic, evening-ready braided look.

Jason J. Dougherty’s “Quick Men’s Style”

Jason J. Dougherty’s “Quick Men’s Style”

For a sophisticated style or a Don Draper-inspired look, try this relaxed yet polished look which has enough body to make a statement while staying clean cut enough for the office.

  1. Start with clean, just washed hair and comb through before applying product.
  2. Using a quarter-sized amount of Philip B Lovin’ Pomade,$26, emulsify using your hands and apply product throughout hair.
  3. With a fine tooth comb, comb through front half of hair, while blow drying on a low setting. Blow dry back half of hair while simply running fingers through.
  4. Use texturizing spray such as Philip B. Russian Amber Imperial Insta-Thick, $20 to roots at the front for a boost. Your style will thank you later. Sculpt hair with hands.
  5. Finish with a medium (more flexible) hairspray like Philip B Jet Set Precision Control Hair Spray, $30, throughout for extra shine and hold.

CRYOTHERAPY: THE ‘ICE BATH’ OF THE 21ST CENTURY

CRYOTHERAPY: THE 'ICE BATH' OF THE 21ST CENTURY

CRYOTHERAPY: THE ‘ICE BATH’ OF THE 21ST CENTURY

www.skintologyny.com

Whole Body Cryotherapy is the exposure of the entire body to extreme cold (-110 to -170 degrees Celsius), lowering the client’s skin surface temperature to approximately 32 degrees F in 30 seconds. This remains nearly constant throughout the entire session (up to 3 minutes!). Skin receptors sense the cold and send signals to the brain to promote regulatory functions. It basically stimulates the body’s natural response to decrease inflammation, pain, spasms and promote healing. Endorphins will be released into the bloodstream, which relax the body and toxins will be flushed out. This process puts users in a very energetic  mood, that can last up to 8 hrs. Most people experience their best night of sleep after a cryo session. This modality is now available at Manhattan’s SkinTology Medi-Spa.

Whole Body Cryotherapy was first utilized in Japan in 1978 to treat rheumatoid arthritis. In 1998 Russian scientists modified the system which allowed for the technology to become more advance and revolutionary. Skintology’s machine is manufactured and developed in Russia.

Studies conducted over the last two decades have established WBC as a powerful treatment for inflammatory disorders, injuries, and muscle and joint pain. WBC can also be used to treat conditions such as fibromyalgia and rheumatism. The immediate release of endorphins can help with insomnia, fighting depressing and decreasing psychological stress. The accelerated production of collagen improves skin elasticity and texture, reversing skin aging and the appearance of cellulite. Additionally, studies have shown a 500-800 calorie after burn associated with the body’s process to warm itself up. WBC boosts the body’s metabolic rate, accelerating weight loss outcomes. Professional athletes have discovered WBC as a powerful treatment to decrease recovery time and increase athletic performance.

The list below features some of the benefits ‘whole body cold-therapy’ can do for you:

* Decrease in inflammation (anti-inflammatory), pain relief and improved mobility

* Fast recovery from injuries/surgery

* Reduction of cellulite appearance

* Dramatic stimulation of the immune system (boost!), hormones and nervous system

* Instant relief of chronic joint pain

* Burn 800 calories and more; stimulation of the metabolism for weight control

* Stimulates skin regeneration and visibly reduces the signs of aging, wrinkle reduction

* Alleviation of headaches/migraines and physical/mental stress

* Improvement of skin complexion and certain skin disorders

* Increased energy, improved sleep and helps with insomnia

* Improved rheumatoid and osteoarthritis

* Can help reduce itching and inflammation in serious skin conditions (psoriasis/eczema)

* Enhances sports performance and increases muscular resistance to fatigue

* Increases libido/sexual stamina

* Stronger hair and nails

* Helps to provide relief from nerve pain

* Stronger, fuller Hair

* Psychological competitive edge

The staff at Skintology is vigilant about checking a client’s blood pressure before and after the treatment. They never leave someone unsupervised in the sauna.  Technicians also meet with prospective patients and all medical and health concerns are discussed during this consultation to make sure someone is an appropriate candidate.

Will I feel discomfort during the treatment?

Most individuals are surprised to feel how tolerable a cryotherapy session is given such extreme temperatures.  The nitrogen in our cryosauna creates a “dry” cold, which is much more comfortable than an ice bath.  We will provide you with gloves and socks to keep your hands and feet warm.  Our friendly technician will talk you through it and make the three minutes pass quickly and easily.

Can I return to my daily activities following a treatment?

Yes, there are no restrictions to your activities following a cryotherapy treatment.

How often should I do cryotherapy?

We recommend that our patients do their first ten sessions within thirty days and then decide how often they would like to continue.  Many benefits such as a rush of endorphins and better sleep can be experienced as early as the first session, however maximum results are obtained with repeated treatments.

Who is a good candidate for cryotherapy?

People from a wide range of lifestyles and ages are a good candidate for this treatment.  While it is certainly helpful to athletes and those with chronic pain, it is also highly recommended for individuals who simply want to improve their overall health and appearance.  However, there are some conditions that would preclude an individual from utilizing this treatment.

How to Look Glam at Work

We’ve all known that one colleague who breezes into the office looking utterly fabulous every day, here’s how to steal her style & do it your way!

At some point in our working lives most of us will have had “that colleague”. Every morning she breezes into the office looking ridiculously fabulous in her own unique way, seemingly without even trying – at 9AM! How do they do it? Is their wardrobe an endless world of work-appropriate gorgeousness?

If you’re bored of button up blouses and sensible work trousers, it’s time to branch out and discover “that colleague’s” workplace styling secrets. There’s no need for a huge budget or a massive wardrobe, in fact a few key pieces and a fresh approach to “professional dressing” are all you could need to get a little more glam at work. Why not start with our top tips…

unnamed-26

Channel a Trend: Keeping abreast of current trends will help your work wardrobe feel more contemporary and cutting-edge. But don’t jump on every fashionable bandwagon around. Instead, select a style you like which can easily be incorporated into your work wardrobe. Picking out each season’s key prints, tones or textures can be a great way to do this. For example, in SS15, bold geometric stripes are proving to be a huge trend. Team them with your work wear for an instant fashion upgrade.

unnamed-24Invest in Statement Shoes: Whether your role requires a more professional palette or doesn’t have a strict dress code, statement shoes are a great way to add a quick and easy pop of colour or charm to work outfits. Choose a bright colour pop and follow through with a matching lipstick, or splash out on a pair you love with quirky appeal to add glamour and personality to your work look.

  1. unnamed-23

Try a Colour Pop: Little freshens up an outfit or brightens up a drab workday like a cheerful burst of colour. To add a little extra glam to your work ensembles, choose “just one item” which really pops, whether that’s a sky blue blazer or a sunny yellow a line skirt, then team it with a more neutral palette to add a splash of colour without looking like a crazy rainbow.

unnamed-22

Splash Out with Your Silhouette: Who says workwear has to be boring? We’re not all part of the sausage machine, you know! The combination of a blazer with a pencil skirt or sensible trousers creates a really predictable silhouette without much personality. Try playing around with the proportions of your work wear to make a stylish change. From full bodied, A-line skirts and high waisted culottes, to cropped tops and oversized shirts, there are lots of chic ways to mix up your work look to create a more contemporary, glamorous style.
unnamed-21Revamp Your Accessories Collection: Updating your accessories can have a huge impact on your workday glamour quotient! Classic pieces you can wear time and time again are great to have in your collection, but when you want to update your workplace look, indulging in some of fashion’s flightier (but super fun) jewellery and accessory trends will help bring your look bang up to date. This season it’s all about aquatic inspired charms (a la Valentino SS15), solid cuffs and chokers (see: Balmain) and mixed natural materials (from raw wood to feathers).

Take Your favorite fragrance on the go with Travalo

12189728_10153631997381422_2712182447858798628_n

I recently found the most glamorous and elegant accessory, the Travalo Milano atomizer from Travalo. As far back as I can remember, whenever I traveled, whether it was a week long trip or a day trip, I would never pack my favorite perfume.  Why?

#1: My perfume bottles were usually made of glass, and I was afraid of breakage;

#2: Most of my perfume bottles were too big to carry and were not allowed in a carry on;

#3: The bottle had a fancy top or some ornate jewel on it, and again, I was afraid of breakage.

Let’s face it, carrying around your favorite bottle of cologne or perfume while away is just not practical, until now. With the way Travalo Milano, I can now carry my favorite fragrance with me and never have to worry about breakage, and it will fit anywhere, even in my jacket pocket. The Travalo Milano contains no glass and is aircraft approved for carry-ons. This sleek and luxurious atomizer has a durable leatherette finish and is available in 8 fashionable colors.  The leak-proof Milano holds up to 5ml of fragrance that is equivalent to 65 sprays.

It’s so easy to fill, simply choose your favorite fragrance and take off the top (shown below). Rest the Milano on top of the perfume/cologne bottle and press down. Within seconds, your fragrance has been transported to your Milano and is ready for use.

As stated by Travalo, “The innovative Genie-S ‘pump to fill’ refill system perfectly transfers your fragrance without spills or damaging exposure to air!”  Another unique feature of the Milano is that it contains a U change inner bottle that can be removed and exchanged for another favorite fragrance held in other Travalo models. All of the Travalo models are interchangeable with each other. Travalo Milano also makes the perfect GIFT; it’s pretty, chic and extremely easy to use you will never leave home without your favorite fragrance again.
