February 2, 2015 – NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Today Jeff Chastain, a New York City celebrity hair stylist, and Birchbox, a leading beauty and grooming company, announce the launch of PARLOR by Jeff Chastain, a line of multitasking hair care and styling products that combine professional quality with everyday ease for fresh, no-fuss style. Chastain – whose celebrity clients include Sarah Jessica Parker, Kerry Washington, Keri Russell, Sam Rockwell, Chris Messina, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Kristen Taekman, among others – designed and developed the collection exclusively for Birchbox.

Inspired by his signature practice of “product cocktailing” – using several different products at once – Chastain created PARLOR by Jeff Chastain, blending the benefits of his favorite products into single, easy-to-use formulas. The launch collection, available today on Birchbox.com, consists of four unisex products: Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray, Smoothing Blow Out Spray, Detangling Leave-In Conditioner and Reworkable Hold Paste. Two additional products – the Texturizing Finishing Spray and Flexible Hold Spray – will launch in May 2015.

“In my experience working with other salon hair brands, I’ve noticed that you often have to use two or more products together to get the desired effect. This always leaves you with too many products in your bathroom that you aren’t using,” says Jeff Chastain. “Every product in the PARLOR by Jeff Chastain line can be used alone to get great style because I’ve done the mixing for you.”

All products contain nourishing sweet almond extract and feature a refined but addictive fragrance with notes of ripe peach, fresh cut grass, and white woods. The bottles and secondary packaging have a premium, soft-touch finish with a sleek silhouette to give the collection a luxury-brand feel at a more accessible price point.

“Jeff Chastain is a long time friend of mine, Hayley’s, and the brand,” said Katia Beauchamp, Birchbox, Co-Founder and Co-CEO. “When Jeff came to us about launching his first hair care line, it was a natural fit. We loved the products and his vision for the line, and really stand behind this brand.”

PARLOR by Jeff Chastain is available today exclusively on Birchbox.com and at the Birchbox store in SoHo, with products retailing individually from $24.00-$28.00.

How To Get Katy Perry’s Superball IXLIX Perfect Perky Pony With KMS CALIFORNIA

‪Katy Perry wowed the audience at the Superbowl IXLIX with a perfect perky pony during her halftime performance. Celebrity stylist, Clyde Haygood, said the inspiration for the look was that “Katy specifically asked for the perkiest pony you’ve ever seen!” Clyde created the pony with extra bounce so it went with the choreography and allowed Katy to helicopter it around while performing with Lenny Kravitz.

unnamed

The ponytail was constructed using a human hair Velcro pony with hair in various lengths sewn onto the inside and outside for added volume. With the added weight, in ordered to create a comfortable support system, Clyde sewed an elastic band to the base on the inside of the pony and put a toggle closure to make the ponytail retractable and actually open and close around Katy’s own hair.

unnamed-3

To set the ponytail, first Clyde took five 3-inch sections and curled them with a 2-inch iron to create an “S” wave. Each section was sprayed with KMS California FREESHAPE 2-in-1 styling + finishing spray ($20.99) before curling. Clyde used this spray because it’s heat activated and perfect to use with irons for setting dry hair. It also brushed out beautifully giving him the bounce he wanted for the performance.‬

‪Next, Clyde worked on slicking Katy’s own hair back with his “go-to” gel product, KMS California HAIRSTAY styling gel ($16.50). This gel has impeccable hold and gave Clyde the glass-like shine he wanted for Katy’s hair.

unnamed-1

‪Once the ponytail was attached Clyde took a small amount of KMS California HAIRPLAY gel wax ($19.75) into the palm of his hands then top-coated Katy’s pony to tame any flyaways and give added support to the style. Clyde likes this product because it has the hold of a gel, yet has flexibility and lets hair move naturally. ‬

Get Hooked on Soft Skin

By Lisa Gal

There is nothing worse than dry, cracked skin and winter seems to exacerbate the problem. L’annine is hands down the best hand and body cream you will ever try. The beneficial ingredients help absorb moisture into the skin while creating a protective barrier that guards against moisture loss. Don’t waste your money on other products that may smell great, but don’t perform. Don’t let the packaging fool you, this multi-purpose cream not only smells great, but it provides lasting hydration with dramatic results. The 2015 Grammy Award nominees are sure to slather this on before they walk the red carpet next weekend. Lucky them, receiving them in their swag bags awaiting their arrival at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.

A CREATIVE MASTERPIECE: KATY PERRY’S SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW!

462640104

With some acts over the past years such as Paul McCartney, The Who, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, you really only get one thing when you watch the Super Bowl Halftime Show: Music! But, when you bring forth a performer like Katy Perry, music at times comes secondary to the visual atmosphere she brings to the stage.

Katy+Perry+Pepsi+Super+Bowl+XLIX+Halftime+jBOxPTsbr_il

While Katy looked absolutely glamorous/sexy in her Jeremy Scott-designed wardrobe during Super Bowl XLIX’s Half Time production, it was the chess-piece costumes of Katy’s backing talent and dancers, mixed in with cleverly-designed giant tree, shark and beach-ball puppets (created by 3-time Emmy Award winning costume designer Marina Toybina who also designed for Katy’s Prismatic tour) that stole the show.

462639566

While we thought we had seen it all on Katy’s recent world tour, the boundaries of what can be reached in such a short amount of time in front of a live audience was succeeded with flying colors. Combining fashion and music has always gone hand-in-hand, but when you bring together the creative and fascinating minds of Katy Perry, Jeremy Scott, Marina Toybina, Hamish Hamilton, Johnny Wujek and others on the XLIX team, the sky is the limit, and if this Super Bowl show is to be remembered for anything, it is the journey these individuals took us on… Oh, and having Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot there too didn’t hurt one bit!

Scrumptious Scrubs

By Lisa Gal

What makes CocoBuzz scrumptious is a mix of organic ingredients including coconut and Manuka honey. Touted as having anti-bacterial properties, studies have shown that Manuka honey is effective when used on top of wounds. The Lotus flower is a symbol of beauty, fertility and purity with a fragrance that is not too sweet and when combined with green tea, which has a lot of antioxidants that benefit the body in many ways, you have an aroma that takes you away to southern Australia. Next weekend Grammy nominees at the Four Seasons will be receiving their very own CocoBuzz Scrub, straight from Australia.

Never Be Without your Bags Again

By Lisa Gal

Another great find in the Grammy Award nominee bags being gifted at the Four Seasons is Urban Market Bags. They have developed a new twist on reusable bags, longer handles sold in sets of 3 or 6 that are conveniently stored in one drawstring pack that fits in the cup holder of your car. Now how is that for handy? With color schemes like rural and metro you’ll have one to match every outfit. The bags are 26″ tall with expandable sides made of 100% SUPPLEX nylon which means they are also machine washable. With the price increase for purchasing bags in some California cities these bags will pay for themselves.

Garrett’s Popcorn, a Celebration for your Mouth

By Lisa Gal

Handcrafted in copper kettles throughout the day and mixed with their secret family recipe is just part of the reason Garrett popcorn shops have such a following. What began in the heart of Chicago in 1949 can now be found as far away as Dubai. Their 12 flavors are hand made in small batches to ensure customer satisfaction, but honestly with flavors like Macadamia CarmelCrisp how can you not indulge!? Of course they have Buttery and Plain for the purist. The 2015 Grammy Award nominees staying at the Four Seasons will get their own tin waiting for them when they return from the awards.

Eating habits to promote hair growth

Continuous washing, styling and coloring can wreak havoc on the hair. To encourage optimal hair health, focus on a diet rich in essential vitamins, minerals, proteins and beneficial fats.

As an established leader in hair growth, HairMax provides a list of super foods known to strengthen, from the inside out:

Protein:

Chicken

Chicken

Hair is comprised of about 97% protein, a critical building block of the body. Without it, the body can’t replace the hairs that you naturally shed.

Prevent unnecessary hair loss by reaching for soy, poultry and lean cuts of beef.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids:

Salmon

Salmon

The hair shaft consists of 2-3% of omega-3s, which are also found in the scalp’s cells and sebum, known to hydrate the scalp and hair.

Since the body doesn’t produce its own omega-3s, ensure silky strands by consuming walnuts, salmon, sardines, trout, mackerel, avocado and pumpkin seeds.

Zinc:

nuts

nuts

Support the glands attached to your hair follicles with zinc, a mineral whose absence causes hair to weaken and fall out. Zinc also promotes balanced hormone levels, which is directly linked to hair health.

To strengthen those tresses, opt for oysters, whole-grain breads, nuts, beef, eggs and shrimp.

Iron:

Greens

Greens

Vital for the production of hemoglobin, which is responsible for oxygen transport through blood, iron is necessary to ensure healthy blood flow to stimulate hair growth.

To encourage hair growth, reach for raisins, dried cherries, eggs, kale, dates and whole-grain cereals.

Don’t have time to eat right? Sometimes our body needs that little extra help to get the essential nourishment needed for healthy hair growth. Reach the daily nutritional goals not fulfilled through diet alone with HairMax’ Dietary Supplements. The nutrient-rich formulas are specifically designed with androgen blockers and powerful antioxidants to support scalp health and promote hair growth. See more at www.hairmax.com
