Keepsakes for those who have lost a loved one from Three-Fourths of an Ounce

Where many other cultures have traditions regarding death, it seems that in our society it’s often difficult to express one’s self and come up with the right things to say to the person who is grieving the loss of a loved one. Even more of a challenge that can be downright overwhelming is when you are the person who has suffered the loss and are emotionally overcome.

Speaking from my own experience when my mom who I cared for passed away, there was such a void! Even after all of the well meaning and appreciated sentiments that were expressed to me…the emptiness remained!

Lauri London Freedmann, a New York-based entrepreneur and creator of Three-Fourths of an Ounce, simply stated the intent of her wonderful new company by saying , “I sincerely hope that Three-Fourths of an Ounce will help all of us feel connected to those we love who are no longer here and those who we wish to support when they are grieving.”

I believe Lauri’s exquisite appropriate “keepsakes” from Three-Fourths of an Ounce, will fill the “void” to help you better communicate with a grieving person, and bridge their emptiness with a tangible modern memorial by giving them something to feel , hold , touch, wear, or view, not only through their “grieving “, but always as an ongoing “remembrance” of the loved one that has passed on.

Let me share two of these beautiful items created by well known artists and designers for “Three-Fourths of an Ounce“:

Weight of the Soul ($200)- The back story is that “110 years ago a physician named Dr. Duncan Macdougall wanted to prove the the existence of the soul scientifically. According to Dr. Macdougall, when a person died their body lost three-fourths of an ounce. He therefore determined this to be the weight of the soul.”

“Weight of the Soul” was designed by celebrated artist and jeweler Ted Muehling. It’s an understated lovely piece that would serve well as decor on a desk or a dresser, a perfect “worry stone”, and even a “constant companion” in your pocket. Each stone is unique, and weighs exactly three-fourths of an ounce!

You’ll also enjoy this stunning Mourning Pendant ($1050) that is hand-carved in black jade, and created in limited editions of three by the distinguished jewelry designer Gabriella Kiss.
